Last fall, I had booked a stay at the Kirkside. A week before we were to go, a family situation prompted me to cancel, and when I tried to see if they would credit my account, the owner/owners brother ( or whoever he was pretending to be that day) lashed out, calling me a shumuck! We went back and forth via email, and I went from angry to amused...how could someone who seems to dislike people so much stay afloat in the hospitality industry? As to the positive reviews here, I suspect the owner is trying to balance the reviews. Stay away!!!

We have stayed at the Kirkside Motor Lodge a few times now and found it to be clean and comfortable each time. It's very convenient for downtown Bennington and very quiet. The owner, Billy Soto, is most helpful in recommending eating locations in town and attractions in the area. He addresses any concerns immediately and to complete satisfaction. It's a great simple motel in a very nice VT town.

The owner of Kirkside Motor Lodge was very friendly and recommended a few places to eat dinner, but the room was not worth the price I was charged. The decor is outdated by about 20 years and the wallpaper is peeling, tiles in the dirty bathroom were cracked, buckled and broken, and there was a large amount of hair on the bathroom floor when we first entered. There was an out of date coffee maker bolted to the wall directly above the toilet - why it wasn't on the desk in the room I don't understand. The room desperately needed a dusting and thorough vacuuming. And we only had about 20 cable channels to watch in the evening, and by the time we woke up that number was cut in half. Guess you're not allowed to watch TV in the morning, I suppose. My recommendation is to keep driving west on Route 9 - there are more motels that look much more appealing - I wish I'd checked those out first.

Rooms were a little worn but they were clean and cozy - Good off-season value - Great location. Owner was good source of local lore and patient when we had issues with our charge card. PS There are hair dryers if you ask
