“Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2008

I chose this hotel because it is close to Lagoon Park (about 5 miles) Easy access from freeway, exit 315. It is in a very quiet area. On the south side there is a Motel 6 right next door and a Denny's but from the north just a field and then a residental neighborhood. You have to drive about a mile to the east for shopping and restaurants. I noticed a Kmart and a Smiths Grocery store in that area and some fast food. However, if you take the next northern freeway exit, (500 South, exit 316) there is a huge shopping area with Costco, Michaels, TJMaxx, Shopko, tons of other stores, movie theatres, and lots of restaurant choices like Cafe Rio, Wingers, Applebees, Rumbis, Pei Wei, Jamba Juice, fast food, Chuck a Rama, and more.

The hotel has three stories and one elevator. The room and bathroom was very clean. It is decorated in a modern style of neutral earthtones. Probably updated in just the last couple of years. Typical hotel layout with 2 queen beds, an armchair with reading lamp, a desk and chair, tv armoire, and bathroom. The bathroom counter was huge. The toilet, shower and sink are all in the same room. The hotel didn't seem very busy, and I didn't hear any noise from the hall or other rooms (tv, showers, etc) when in my room. The air conditioner worked well, and it didn't interrupt my sleep. There was a ceiling fan in the room, but it wobbled and rattled too much to use.

The staff was very nice. They had free cookies, coffee and hot chocolate available. The best part was the beds. Very comfortable beds, plenty of pillows, and nice sheets and a duvet cover. The "Heavenly Bed" and free breakfast is why I usually choose a Hampton. The breakfast was good. They had: oatmeal, yogurt, cold ceral, muffins, donuts, bagels, english muffins, toast, (with butter/jam/cream cheese, peanut butter etc) sausage and eggs (perfect for making a "mcmuffin" sandwich) apples, bananas, frut cocktail, orange juice, apple juice, milk and water. The breakfast hostess was extremely nice and helpful. I paid about $90/night and was very happy with everything.

“Adequate”

We stayed just one night at this Hampton Inn. It seems to be an older property and needs some renovating. The bed was nice. We ate at Lorena's next door and the Mexican food was not the best we've had but was hot, plentiful, moderately priced, and we walked there which was nice after a long day in the car.

“Good for quick freeway stop”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2005

I stayed at this hotel for a week since all the hotels within the Salt Lake city downtown area were booked. It's an inconvenient location approximately 10 miles north of the city, if your business is in downtown. But if you're just passing through this is actually a convenient stop with no city congestion. Not too many people stay at this hotel. During my stay, I counted on average 25 cars total in the huge parking lot.

Amenities include:
- free tea/coffee in lobby
- free fresh-baked cookies in the evenings
- free continental breakfast (the selection will disappoint some people, don't expect too much)
- indoor pool (tiny) - didn't use but seemed clean and pleasant - I saw a few kids having fun there one evening
- free wireless internet access - worked great in my room and the lobby area. Rooms do not have wired ethernet ports so bring your wireless adapter if needed
- tiny "business center" with a couple of computers you can use for free
- tiny laundry room with one washer/dryer

Room details:
- queen with sleeper sofa (they do have double-queen rooms and king rooms)
- desk/table
- armoire
- luggage chest
- TV

The neighborhood:
- next door neighbor one side is a Motel 6
- next door neighbor other side are modest single family homes
- across the street is a tank farm supporting a refinery a couple miles down the road (I couldn't smell anything from this industrial area which surprised me)
- Denny's and a Mexican restaurant are next to the Motel 6. Both restaurants are rundown and not many people go there.
- across the highway is a very old shopping area with a couple of older restaurants, Kmart

Overall recommendation:
- For the price (approximately $80), I think this hotel is just fine.
- I'd recommend this for a quick overnight stay while on a road trip
