“Great property, good quality and value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

I enjoyed the service attitude of the staff. Each time I went to the front desk with a question, they cheerfully had an answer, but then they also took the extra step to ask if there was anything else they could do to help me.

The front lobby is pleasant and inviting. I appreciate the non-smoking policy throughout the building. The room was great. It had a fresh smell - not musty. I liked the separate area for the couch and chair, etc. The LCD flat screen TV is situated between the lounge area and the bed area and pivots easily to allow you to point the TV to wherever you are in the room. The microwave and refrigerator came in handy for this particular trip - I used both. The bed was supplied with both soft and firm pillows.

Some people don't like having the sinks out in the room instead of in the bathroom, but I didn't mind that. Indeed, because the double sinks were in the room area, I had a six-foot counter to work with, a much easier time using a power outlet on each end of the counter, and could also iron my clothes in front of the counter where it was actually well-lighted.

The bath worked great, with one of those curved curtain rods that give you more room, a good and quick supply of hot water, and nice-sized towels. Be aware that the shower head doesn't adjust for pressure, just temperature. The water is soft.

They have a complete hot breakfast buffet that is included with the room. This location served a great breakfast with eggs, real has browns, cut sausage, and baked croissants with ham and melted cheese inside. They also had cereals, yogurt, toast, bagels, apple sauce, etc.

“Excellent choice at very affordable price”

I stayed at Crystal Inn in West Valley City during a work trip, so I received a corporate rate. Excellent location, good restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and Fare Valley Mall just on the other side of the freeway.

Lobby and room was very clean, and extremely spacious. Continental breakfast every morning was excellent with a wide variety to choose from, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, cereal, toast, fruit. Pool and weigh room (although I didn't use) looked better than most other hotels. And the front desk staff were nice and very accommodating. Microwave and fridge in the room too.

The only downfall was no ice machine on 1st floor, had to go to 2nd or 3rd. But that's pretty trivial.

For the price and amenities, I would definitely stay here every time I visit Salt Lake.

“Picked a Bad Time to stay here.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011

My son & I recently spent 5 nights @ the Crystal Inn in West Valley City, UT. Our timing stunk. I told the night clerk, that my son had golf clubs & I had a bad knee, but he still put us on the 3rd floor. That should have been a real big clue that they didn't want or care for our business. They were re-carpeting / re-tiling the hallways & stairways & everything was a real mess. Aren't hotels supposed to offer a discount if the hotel in question is being renovated? We paid full price with no discounts. All of the staff I dealt with were curt & the customer service was very poor. At least the staff can make an attempt to be polite. They don't have to kiss our rear-ends, but being nice should be a requirement if you are working at a reasonably priced hotel. The ice machine on the 3rd floor was not working. The ice machine on the 2nd floor was tired & it took alot of effort to get a single cup of ice.
They can't wait to get you out. They de-activated my door card 3x & twice on the last day when I was trying to leave. I had to go down to the front desk 2x to get the door card reactivated. Its a real pain if you have a bad knee. They also turned off the air conditioning to the room. I couldn't get the air-conditioner to turn back on when I was packing to leave. The check-out time is 12:00.
The only people who were nice, were the employees who worked for the carpeting / tile company. Those guys were great.
The continental breakfast is your typical garbage. There was always something missing whether it was forks, spoons, trays, etc.

I would never stay here again & I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The only good thing about this hotel, is the location. Thanks for nothing.

“Still good but with one caution”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2011

Second time staying here on our way to Yellowstone park. The rooms are large and clean. The bed was a bit too hard for our preference. The price is very good. Several restaurants within walking distance. Although, also there are a few "pubs" close too. The one caution I have is that when you make reservations, or upon checking in if you don't have reservations, is to ask if there is a convention going on and if the convention people are staying at the hotel. This time that we stayed here, it was very very noisy, as some kind of convention was staying at the hotel. The noise went on past 2 in the morning. When I did call the front desk, I have to say, the noise subsided. The hotel also gave us a 10.00 credit upon checking out for the "inconvenience", which was very nice. This hotel is very close to the "belt" (route 215) which connects to interstate 15. Using the "belt" you can bypass some of the traffic on interstate 15.
