“Nothing great”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2006

We stayed in room 216 in early July 2006. The room was spacious, clean and quiet with good condition furniture and an air conditioner that worked well. The king bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and adequate with a few VERY small towels. The shower was good. The room had no microwave, refrigerator, or coffee maker. The continental breakfast was paltry and unappetizing (stale donuts and boxed sweet cereal). The breakfast service area, which is by the main desk in the lobby, was FILTHY and neglected. New carpet was being installed during our stay and strong “new carpet” odor was present in the room and throughout the motel. Overall, the motel was a barely acceptable basic no-frills property.

NOTE: We booked the room well in advance at a quoted AAA rate of $57 plus tax. The manager seemed to think that our rate was a great deal. I do not think so. We were in Vernal during the peak summer vacation period and there was a great deal of corporate construction work going on with lots of transient workers staying in motels in town but the motel was never full during our stay. The manager complained that other hotels were getting the construction worker corporate-paid business. He said he couldn’t understand why that was and that he was disappointed. There are several other motels in Vernal and none of them were full as evidenced by the many vacancy signs during our stay. I would not pay any more for the room than we did. ‘Nuf said.

“Health Code Violation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2006

It was never clear whether or not the owner, who works here most of the day, really understood English. He was very smiley and agreeable, but wouldn't follow up on requests or look into problems without supervision. When I was issued my key cards to open the doors, neither of them worked. The same thing happened to a guy down the hall from me. I told the owner about the problem and asked him to provide another key. He let me into my room and said the keys would be coming shortly. It turns out that they weren't. I returned to the front desk some time later to what appeared to be the evening manager. This person was able to give me a key to open my room.

The next morning, I went to the free "breakfast." The selection was small, but I decided to have an English muffin. I grabbed some butter containers, but when I opened one, I saw that it had been used and had its lid replaced. I assumed it was a fluke or something, but when I started looking, I could not find a single butter container with the lid firmly attached. I don't know if they had butter containers with defective glue, if the containers somehow got ruined in excessive heat, or if the hotel owners never really expected anyone to use the butter, but I thought it was gross. It has to be a health code violation to serve used single-use containers of butter to the customers. I threw most of the butter away, and saw that it had been replaced in the morning... with more of the same containers.

I don't recommend staying here.

“Okay for the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2006

The motel wasn’t terrible, especially for the price - it was fairly clean, (could have been cleaner), and the staff was generally friendly, HOWEVER: The walls were very thin - hope you don’t have noisy neighbors, and it's right on the main highway so you can get traffic noise. The breakfast was a joke, (I don’t know where they find donuts so hard and stale), and there’s not much more except cold cereal, coffee, and juice - fortunately there’s fast food nearby. We asked for a non-smoking room and got one, but someone had smoked in it, (a lot), and the management wouldn’t give us another room, (they said they were all occupied). The smoking wouldn't have bothered me so much except the manager insisted that no one had ever smoked in the room - when I showed him the cigarette burns on the tub and furniture, and pointed out the strong odor, he changed his story to "he couldn't help it if people had smoked in it." I’ve stayed in worse places, but also a whole lot better.

Cheap but lobby quite rundown and dirty. Rooms clean except for bedspreads. Continental breakfast just punch and donuts. Check out other motels before settling here

“cheap and good”

Getting to Vernal we found out that the motels in this little city were rather expensive (e.g. Best Western). We actually wanted to stay in the Motel6 which is very close to the Super8 but located a little way back from the main street. However, Motel6 was full so we decided to go for the cheapest deal we could get - Super8. We were satisfied by what we got for our money. The rooms were clean and breakfast was what you can call a breakfast. The walls were a little thin and the indoor pool looked kind of "cloudy" but it was way to hot to jump into an indoor pool anyway. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definetely stay there again if I want to spend only little money on housing.
