“This was REALLY miserable ...”

Worst hotel during our 4 week USA trip. High rates. Low value.
30 yr. old rooms / furnishing / sanitary equipment.
Dimly and mouldy.
Next time we will better sleep in the car.

“Old, outdated, not very comfortable”

Everything else was booked when we came into Vernal around 8 pm at night. The only other option was the TravelLodge, which was obviously the worst place in town. The staff are friendly, and pets are allowed, but the rooms are very old, 70's-feel, and didn't feel very clean. I didn't see any obvious grime, but the tile, carpet and bedding was so obviously old and worn out, it lent an overall feeling of 'ick' to the room. It was okay for one night, but I wouldn't stay here again.

“Good experience”

As a family of six, it can be a little harder to find a room with less than a week's notice, especially in Vernal, apparently.

We tried all the major motels with no luck, then called the Lamplighter (since they don't seem to have a website). They had a few rooms left and we got one for a little over $100 a night with two queen beds.

We were a little bit leary after reading the previous reviews. However, our stay was comfortable and without incident.

The people at the front desk were friendly and courteous. The room was clean - even the brass fixtures were fingerprint free. There were a few maintenance things - the large cupboard that houses the small TV, mini fridge and small microwave was coming apart on the side and there were a couple finishing nails sticking out that posed a potential hazard for little kids. There were a couple other things that needed to b replaced (a small missing piece of tile, a broken power outlet).

The beds were as good as most.

One note if you have small kids: there is not any type of upper lock or latch on the door like a lot of places have to keep the kids from opening the door.

Overall a good stay and a fair value.

“Doors are upgraded now”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2007

Well, the good thing about an oil boom is that they've invested in keycard locks on the doors, with a deadbolt feature.

The mattresses have not been upgraded, but the ones in my room weren't unsleepable during my forced 2-week stay. They weren't great, but they weren't the worst I've dealt with.

If you stay here & have chemical sensitivities, tell housekeeping to NOT spray the lysol or whatever it is they use daily in the air. I had to.

Very basic, but clean, no mold. Haven't figured out why their restaurant closes just before the dinner hour (4pm).

No suspicous activities, just oil workers on long term stays grilling out, mostly quiet, although I heard the place can get rowdy.

“Great....If you don't like sleeping. A Disaster!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2006

We planned a two-night trip to Vernal with four adults. We booked at the Lamplighter hotel for those two nights. We weren't expecting a four star hotel, but for the price we figured it should be a decent nights sleep...WRONG! At one point or another during the night, each of us considered sleeping on the floor or in the car. The mattresses, I'm guessing, must be at least 10 years old; my wife insists they are closer to 20. All of us woke up (from what sleep we did get) with sore backs and a sour distaste for the Lamplighter Inn. The rooms were clean, but with stark white cinder block walls and the barely 19" TV, it is hard to paint any kind of redeeming picture of this hotel. Also, the walls did little to muffle the sounds from other rooms and there is was no deadbolt or chain on the door. With some questionable characters unloading their truck at midnight, the push button lock on the door did little to sooth our concerns for security, almost to the point where we pushed furniture in front of the door. We checked out immediately the next day, canceling our second night's stay. At that point we didn't care if we couldn't get another hotel and would have to cut our vacation short, we would not stay another night in the hotel. Fortunately we were able to get a room at the Best Western Antlers. In contrast, it was a well-proportioned room with comfortable Serta Mattresses. Lamplight Inn, if you are reading this (which I doubt) GET SOME NEW MATRESSES AND INSTALL DEADBOLTS, or close your doors. What a rip-off!!!
