“great views - not crowded”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

This was our first B&B experience & very nice. We stayed 2 nights & had one of the rooms downstairs, the bed was comfortable & the room was clean. The breakfast both days were different & very tasty, plenty of food & could have more if wanted. The owners, Alice & David, accommodated each couple to serve breakfast when they requested, but the days we were there everybody wanted to eat at 7:45 & be on they way to Bryce Canyon. The company of the other guests made this a very pleasant experience. Alice & David were very friendly & knowledgable about the area, especially when we came in late & needed someplace to eat dinner. They directed us to the local restaurant about a mile from there & the food was very good. Alice even told us about a wonderful restaurant in Cameron, AZ to be sure to stop & have lunch at on our way to the Grand Canyon. It was a GREAT lunch on an Indian Reservation.
We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for everything Alice & David.

“rustic and charming”

We stayed two nights in the room next to the patio. The room was immaculate, the bed was comfortable, the toiletries organic. One night, David set up a telescope to look at the night stars. The dark sky near Bryce is reputedly to be primed for star gazing compared to the rest of the country. Alice and David were very good hosts. The living room and dining area were not picture perfect tidy--books and magazines were strewn out on tables giving it an air of lived in comfort, like we were visiting friends or family. Sophie, the yellow lab was around and though I'm not a dog lover or even that comfortable with dogs in general, she was very sweet and friendly. Alice is an awesome cook. We weren't planning on having breakfast there since we were going into Bryce predawn for sunrise pictures but we decided to at least try it once and afterwards decided to come back the next morning for breakfast too. One morning, breakfast included a delicious scone (golden and caramelized around the edges rivaling Berkeley's Cheeseboard's cherry corn scone), cheese and ham omelette, fresh melon, home fries and the next day we had waffles, perfectly crisp bacon, scrambled eggs, sweet watermelon. Finally, it's proximity to Bryce (10 min.) made it a great find!

“The setting is beautiful and we loved it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

The B & B is set on a hillside just outside of Tropic. The home combines the ideal combination of the warmth of a B and B with the privacy of a hotel. That is, the rooms all have a separate outside entrance, but there is a common dining area and living room. Each room has direct access to a patio with a magnificent view. The hosts are very knowledgeable about the area and made excellent recommendations for hikes and other activities (e.g. which outfitter to use for horseback riding). The breakfasts are delicious and provide a hearty, healthful start to a day of activity. The location is also ideal- 7 miles from the entrance to Bryce Canyon, but away from the honky-tonk of Canyon City.

“Three nights in a perfect B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

Great value B&B with gracious hosts, Alice and David. It is located on a hill with a commanding vista view of grazing land, distant mountains and the Tropic valley. Alice and David have settled into this area, transplanted from L.A. and NYC, and clearly love the area, the history and the geography. The main sitting room is filled with local books, artifacts and artwork from the southern Utah area and a pair of binoculars are offered for viewing the wildlife and surroundings. Each breakfast was unique and delicious. The room was clean and the back porch was perfect for watching the sun rise or watching it bounce off the distant cliffs at sunset. The centralized location offers 10 minute access to Bryce Canyon and quick access to Kodachrome Basin Park, Grosvenor Arch, Grand Staircase Escalante State Park, Dixie National Forest and more. Be sure to visit the animal pen and say Hi to their horse, burro and goat, named Scooter.

“Nice room, good breakfast...the rest was iffy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Buffalo Sage B&B in early October, 2010.
Approaching the B&B: Several reviews had mentioned how junky and messy the outside was, but I ignored those observations. I thought, "How bad can it be?" These observations by other people proved to be correct, however. I would think that one day of cleaning and power washing would take care of the mess outside, and then these things would not be such a turnoff.
Inside: The inside of the house, which is actually their living room, dining room and kitchen, was not neat and tidy, as you might expect from someone having a B&B. Stacks of magazines, piles of stuff everywhere...well, it wasn't what I expected, I guess. If you can ignore this sort of thing, then this might be an OK B&B for you.
Room: The room was very nice, but there wasn't a computer-friendly desk and only a rocking chair to sit in. I thought the bed was great.
Pets: I wasn't bothered by the large dog in the house, and we never saw their 2 cats, but Alice said that the cats get onto the table so they leave them in their living quarters when they have guests.
Breakfast: The breakfast was very nice--omelets with veggies, scones and fruit, plus coffee and juice. I had told Alice before we came that my husband was a vegan and we talked about the fact that he needed something like oatmeal, but she must have forgotten, but after some discussion, she was able to accommodate him just fine.
Conclusion In all, it was OK.
