“In a class of it's own! The absolute best in the area.”

This lodge in the Capitol Reef National Park area is our favorite and we have returned for 3 years. The rooms are beautifully decorated, spotless, & comfortable. The innkeepers and staff are pleasant and helpful. The buffalo are amazing to watch from the restaurant and stargazing from the hot tub on a clear night is not to be missed! The fireplace in all rooms are lit at your request. Truly a special, memorable stay!

“What a disappointment”

We were quite disappointed with our stay. The ranch portrays an image of a luxury resort, but they do not treat their guests like you would expect for this type of resort. There is an unwelcoming sort of feel in the place. As an example, they have a beautiful great room that would be nice to sit and read in, and according to info in the room, they state you can have tea or coffee any time of the day. When we asked where it was, the staff told us to knock on the kitchen door and ask the staff to make us some. Why not just have a station with a selection of drinks available every day? It seems like they make these things more difficult than they should be. Same thing for bathrobes, you have to go downstairs and ask for them. Who thinks of this before actually taking a bath!? We ate dinner there one night and it was just a very average meal (I'm being kind), typical of diner food, yet they are charging $25 a plate for food. You'll spend the same amount at Cafe Diablo and be much much happier! Wish we would have eaten at Cafe Diablo both nights. Also, the wait staff was very rude. It feels like the hotel is really trying to cut corners, but still portray this image of a luxury resort.

Also, as others have noted, the rooms are quite small, there is really no sitting area in most of them for reading, and the walls are extremely thin. We were right next to the stairs and could hear everyone coming up and down. The location of the lodge is gorgeous, and we had so much fun in town and hiking at Capitol Reef that we know we will go back to the area, so we began searching for other hotels. We went and looked at the Torrey Schoolhouse Bed and Breakfast and the feeling there is completely different. It's a beautiful building, right in town, with nice light and open rooms and breakfast included for a much lower price. If there were a few more places like this in Torrey, the Lodge at Red River Ranch would either go out of business or have to change their ways.

“The Lodge felt like our own...except we had staff to wait on us! Glorious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2010

The Lodge at Red River was everything we expected. Based on the intitial article out of Sunset Magazine, and our research on line, our experience exceeded our expectations. The gathering room with huge fireplace allowed us to totally unwind. The cozy library on the second level allowed us to check email in total privacy. Our room was cozy and comfortable, and the staff lighting the in room fireplace nightly was heaven. Supper at The Lodge was much more than we expected. Being foodies we expect a lot, and the bison tenderloin and potato crusted trout didn't disappoint. And the salad...so good, especially with the homemade blue cheese dressing. Can't say enough about the staff, especially the inn keepers who are well educated, great conversationalists, and caring. We look forward to our return when we intend to fly fish the 6 miles of private river. Thanks so much!

“Great place but a little over priced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

This Lodge was beautifully decorated with many lovely antiques. The rooms were quaint and roomy. I think for the price it would have been nice to get a breakfast included. It was a pleasant stay with beautiful surroundings and the buffalo in the field was a nice sight. However, it just seemed too quiet. There was a TV in the rec room which happened to be in the basement. The lights down there did not work, it was a little eerie. I think they should provide maybe coffee or fruit for you to enjoy while sitting in the living area which is a beautiful room but somehow just did not feel comfortable about using it. It was a good experience but probably would not stay again.

“Manager needs a vacation!”

Lovely & well maintained lodge in a beautiful red rock setting in the bend of the Fremont River. I'm not sure I would call the rooms "luxury," but they are very nice. Best thing was breakfast looking out on the bison. Some of the staff were rather cool, but some were quite friendly. Manager seems really stressed. I think it's a bit overpriced for today's market.
