We came up Rt 12 to 24, made a right turn and drove into Capital Reef to Fruita Campground. We had great expectations after reading good reviews of this green oasis inside Capital Reef. We were disappointed when we got to Fruita at 1:00 it was full with a waiting line of RV's. Not only that, Fruita looked more like a parking lot than a campground. We decided to backtrack 12 miles up Rt 12 to Single Tree Campground - what a great decision that was! Plenty of sites available, Ralph the campground host, was excellent. Open sites with good distance between them allowed us to have privacy and views in a pine forest that was actually so much better than Fruita. We had a site on the outside circle with spectacular views of Henry Mountains and the Grand Staircase. We breathed a deep sence of relief for coming back to
this fabulous site. The next day, we drove the Burr Trail into Capital Reef. It was easy and convenient from this location - we highly recommend it.
