“Enjoyed, but caution”

My wife and I ended up enjoying our 2 night stay at the Amber Inn, and we also enjoyed Nida, our hostess, after some serious trepidation after reading TripAdvisor reviews. Nida is from Lithuania, about 32, and doesn't get what being a generous hostess at a b&b is all about.Breakfast is fairly small, the hash browns and sausages were low quality and seemed microwaved. One had to ask for seconds on anything they wanted, and she would bring out just one of whatever was asked. She does have her own large fruit orchard and did provide a small bit to her guests.
Nida (her husband is very quiet and keeps to himself) is a hostess in her own fashion. My wife and I had some interesting conversations with her. She was very opinionated, but that was entertaining for us.
Much of the negative comments that others have made are true, but one can still have a fairly pleasant stay here. Our room was large, very comfortable and very clean. Here is a funny incident that captures her. We told her we didn't need our room cleaned or tidied up after our first night. Well, when we came back, the towel which my wife had left loosely bunched overhanging the shower door was back in place on the towel rack. I am sure she was concerned that the towel could mold.My grandfather was like that, but he lived in Miami, not the desert And, there are signs up in the bathroom stating a 5 minute max for showers, due to the desert climate.
She was also rigid when we tried to change our reservation the day before, saying she would charge for one night. Even though that is understandable, most B&B's are not so rigid.
Again, it worked out pretty well for us, it was just a different experience and I understand why some people had a less than successful stay at Amber Inn

“An average B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Breakfasts were not great. Coffee pot was took away, and not asked if we wanted another cup. After breakfast was finished we were asked if we wanted a sausage. If you said yes 1 very small sausage was given to you. We found the house very dark. No lights were put on on arrival. Were made to feel uncomfortable taking the cases upstairs in case the wallpaper was damaged.
For some reason small amounts of toilet paper on each roll was stored in the cupboard. Room was spacious with thick carpet. We would look elsewhere for accommodation next visit.

“I'd probably stay somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We stayed in the Cherry Room for three days in September and chose this B&B because price was more economical than staying at the Zion Lodge or in Springdale. Our room was large, comfortable and clean. The B&B is located on the main street in town and can get noisy. Our room was at the back, so this was not so much an issue. The decor was a little tired (old carpet, etc.), but if I were just rating the room, I would give it four stars. The two star rating is because we felt they were pinching pennies continually to make up for the price difference. We were greeted by Nida and requested to pay immediately. We never met her husband except at breakfast the second day. He did not introduce himself or even talk to anyone at the table; he only served breakfast. The water for showers was never quite hot enough. Coffee and tea were not available except at breakfast, which was at 8:00 a.m. I am an early riser and had to drive into town for coffee every morning. At breakfast (which is served PROMPTLY at 8:00--we came downstairs one day about five minutes after eight and our plates were sitting on the table), coffee is not set out. Nida pours it herself and takes it away. If you want cream, she pours it into your cup and then takes it away. Breakfast was okay--not bad but not remarkable either. On our second day my husband asked for a glass of milk, and Nida launched into a tirade about how milk was bad for you and no one drinks milk. Our last day we had to be on the road early, so needless to say there was no coffee, tea or anything. Nida offered to leave out some granola bars because "people who were here three days ago took the bagels." At night, the house was dark, dark, dark. No lights or lamps were on inside. There are two flights of stairs leading to the bedrooms and it is downright scary trying to feel your way around for hall lights to see. There really was no commom room for guests (the hosts were watching some Russian television show one night in the living room) and the furniture on the porch looked old and dirty. You really would not want to sit down and relax on the porch. We felt Nida was a little argumentative. If you said you ate dinner one place, she would say "why did you eat there? They are no good. You should have eaten here." Posted on the front door is a sign staying "do not ask us for directions to Grafton" (a ghost town in the area). What exactly is the problem there? If I had it to do over again, I would chose another place to stay.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back of the inn.

“Excellent choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

I had a great stay at the Amber Inn. Nida was a great hostess and I enjoyed many an interesting chat with her in the evening before I retired to my room. That was very large and comfortable. Nida went to a lot of trouble with breakfast, making it different every day.

The two miles to Springdale is hardly an issue. The approach to Rockville from the west is wild and wonderful. You would rate it highly if not for Zion National Park which is spectacularly beautiful. Do not confine yourselves to the park proper, the route on highway 9 to the eastern entrance to the park is very different, very varied and almost as good.

“Large clean room, a keeper!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2011

We stayed with Nida (owner & Innkeeper) for 4 days in May 2011 during our hiking trip to Zion. The room was big, bright, airy, and as clean as a whistle. Bathroom was a fair size too, and just as clean. Ask for Nida's smoothie for breakfast - DELICIOUS, as were the rest of the breakfasts. Nida had great local hiking tips which we did not find in any of the 'books'. All in all a great stay, the one minor downside is that it is about 4 miles from Springdale, n.g. for car-less walkabouts in the evening. We would definitely stay again. Thanks Nida.

Room Tip: Try for the Ivory Room - lots of windows and grea.
