“Beautiful/Luxury Hotel in a Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2006

We just returned from a long weekend in Park City at the Silver Queen Hotel. Having seen the pictures on their website (and being a fan of small boutique hotels) I was excited to see that our 1 bedroom condo more than exceeded our expectations.

I have stayed in many condos/hotels while on ski trips(Vail, Tahoe, Whistler) and this was by far the best!

Decor/Style: Since we were staying at the very end of ski season we had the whole hotel practically to ourselves. A 1 bedroom condo has a very open living room/dining room area that opens into a sleek modern kitchen. Every living room has a brick fireplace, large window overlooking Main Street, tv/dvd and large couch and chair with ottoman. An added plus was the extra half-bathroom (in addition to the full master bath) was great for 2 people. There was even a linen closet in the guest bath with a washer/dryer combo. This modern hotel is definitely not your standard ski lodge style (aka shag run and western motif). I loved our condo! The owner payed attention to every detail. The bedroom was designed for comfort and spa-style relaxation, with mahogony furniture, a closet with built in shelves and beautiful marble bathroom with jacuzzi tub. I even loved the whimsical touches, such as the fur pillow shams, and art deco light fixtures. I am told the owner lovingly inlaid the heart-shaped stones found in most of the baths. Also, the living-room/dining room was spacious with a beautiful iron chandelier over the dining table.

Most important, since our hotel was practically empty the manager was nice enough to show us the other rooms (1 & 2br)in the hotel and each was decorated with the same lavish style and convenience. Each unit was just as nice as the next. There are different floor plans (some rooms have french doors leading to the living space, off the bedroom, other rooms have more windows, etc.)

The only slight downside was the dry air, which I've found to be typical in many ski areas. Anticipating this concern, each unit has a small cold air humidifier to add moisture to the units.

Added bonus: The rooftop jacuzzi had a great view of the Park City ski slopes (snow covered) on one side and a view of the green mountain tops on the other side. At dusk it was breathtaking. Unlike the jacuzzi's I saw in some of the other condos along Main Street, this one felt completely private because of its location on the rooftop. I personally would not have wanted one of those condos with decks over the main drag... i.e. to hang out in a jacuzzi with my swimsuit while being gawked at by the passers by on Main Street.

Service: Again, we were either the only guests or one of a few...and service was great. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful (made dinner reservations, chatted about the sights and skiing). You can tell they really love the hotel and are proud the care and detail given to the rooms. While the management desk is closed after 5:30 or so, this was not a problem for us at all.

Location: Right on Main Street, next to shops, restaurants (and my favorite candy apple store). Walk out the front door and you're only 2 blocks away from the Town Lift to ski Park City. If you want to ski the other fine resorsts, a shuttle on Main Street can take you to Deer Valley or The Canyon in minutes.

Overall, I give the hotel an A+.

“Better than expected”

We could not have been happier with the Silver Queen. The accomodations felt like home from the minute we checked in. The unit was well appointed and gave all of us enough breathing room. Location was great too, didn't even need a car. It was so private feeling, I thought we were the only guests and with the key access to the floor, we didn't even lock the door. Keep operating hours of the desk in mind when arriving but a little pre-planning can prevent problems. We also contacted a service to purchase groceries and stock the unit - a little pricey but a nice way to start the trip. We will be back!

“No substance, no service, no comfort”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2004

We stayed at the Silver Queen last January 2004, and were extremely disappointed. We were misinformed by management that this was a full service luxury boutique hotel, however we found out, on the day of arrival, that the hotel is not staffed after 5pm, and service is very limited. Not only did we pick up our keys from the deli downstairs, and carry up luggage and ski equipment on our own, we found that our two bedroom suite was so small it was a fire hazard when the pull out sofa for the children was extended. The lack of professionalism, service and comfort at a very high rate, made this experience a "must miss."

“Silver Queen - All Style, No Substance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2004

We stayed at the Silver Queen in April of 2004. The previous manager had kept service to a high level. Unfortunately, there was new management and everything had become so incomvenient. It was like pulling teeth to get the most rudimentary service from the staff. First, we had a 2 bedroom suite for $500 per night. I think it used to be a 1 bedroom and they stuck in a wall to divy it up - very cramped rooms but beautifully decorated in an oriental theme and very clean. When we arrived, we had to drag our heavy bags (ski stuff) up 2 flights of stairs because no one was there at the desk and you need a special key to use the elevator. Forget about bellhops or valet service! There was parking in the building but they don't let guests use it - after the first hour, we had to park on the street and move our car often to keep it from being towed - not real hospitable. There was nowhere to put our suitcases once we were unpacked, and very little storage of any kind for clothing. It was uncomfortable cramped. By three o'clock in the afternoon, our room has not yet been made up. We inquired and were told that they would be "getting to it" shortly. Even Motel 6 is faster than that! The second day, we noticed that the maids had left no coffee for our machine and were told that coffee is only provided the first day. The last straw was when some kids were jumping around in the unit above us, I was sitting at the dining table reading a paper, and the chandelier fell out of the ceiling and nearly cold-conked me! We have traveled extensively and we know what a $500 a night room is supposed to be like. This hotel was very pretty but the service was so abysmal I would never repeat the experience.

“Luxurious Elegance!”

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. I stayed here as part of a sales incentive trip (January '04). The entire group was overwhelmed with the beauty of each of the rooms. There are four different "styles", but each is incredible and unique. The design details are fantastic and something that one would expect only to see in a private residence. The rooms were actully "mini apartments" with a full kitchen, dining area, living area and washer and dryer. Everything was first class - Cuisinart blenders, stainless steel appliances, fully stocked kitchen utencils, coffee machine & bean grinders, etc. The other details were amazing such as fresh flowers, daily treats, steam showers, luxurious beds, fax/phone/copier (which we used frequently!), CD player, DVD player, etc. The location is also unbeatable - roll out the door and one is surrounded by restaurants, bars, galleries and shopping. We were on the Town Lift within 10 minutes of leaving the hotel I cannot say enough good things about this hotel and their staff. Although the rate might be pricey - it is a unique luxurious hotel - and WORTH IT.
