For anyone wanting to experience Park City, Utah from the insiders vantage point then a stay at the Old Town Guest House is an absolute must! Not only does the inn exude the "Park City vibe", but the staff will make you instantly feel like you've stumbled in to a magical oasis of tranquility not unlike visiting old friends or maybe long lost relatives.
The Rooms are clean, comfortable and most of all "homey". There is ample room for stowing your gear, and all rooms even provisioned with a safe to stow your valuables. Our stay was in the McConkeys Suite which comprises the entire top floor of the inn. A
queen sized log bed in the main room was flanked by antique end tables that held tissues, magazines and guides, antique lamps, and even a pair of disposable ear plugs. There was additional seating by the shuttered windows that overlooked downtown Park City from the inn's perch on Empire St. a short four block walk (downhill)
to the bottom of Main Street with all the nightlife, restaurants, galleries, and local color a person could possibly want no matter how long the stay.
The suite also features a separate bedroom with a double bunk, a rocking chair to curl up in with a book from the library downstairs, and a window overlooking the "backyard".
The bathroom had a huge shower/tub and a separate dressing area. Comfortable robes are supplied along with earth friendly toiletries, big fluffy bath towels, and if you had forgotten something at home, all one had to do was ask or check the "extras" shelves downstairs (irons, ironing boards, a shoe, boot, and glove warmer, laundry facilities, etc.). I don't believe I've ever stayed in any place that even had "q-tips" out in a small pressed glass makeup jar.
The inn prepares breakfast for guests every morning and what a delightful meal it is. Ours consisted of perfectly poached eggs, all manner of breads and cereals, several flavors of yogurt, juice, tea, milk, coffee and the fluffiest pancakes I've put in my mouth since Granny's house when I was a kid back in the dark ages.
The main sitting area with it's stone fireplace, bookcases filled with books, movies, and guides to the local areas of interest is hard to beat, but in my opinion the gigantic deck is the place to be. Tables and chairs are scattered around all corners, and there is always the 6 person hot tub tucked in the back.
The inn would be just another B&B but for the owner and staff. Need help planning a hike? How about a Mountin Bike ride? Want to ski, bobsled, skate, rollerblade, swim, fish, or go shopping? Whatever your sport, whatever your need Deb or Sara can help, and will do so with a smile. If it's outdoor activities you came for, you can't ask for better guides. If you want to know where to have a memorable meal, see a play, listen to music, or dance the night away just ask and you'll have a good half dozen ideas you can't go wrong with.
As for the title of this review? We came for a romantic get away to celebrate a birthday. As we left to return to "real life" my wife turned to me a said..." Honey...I think this will be my new birthday tradition. We should come here every year from no matter where we are!"
