This place was so old and the bed linens were gross. The walls are cinder block. The air conditioner was old and could not keep up. They filled in the pool and offered to let my kids play in the hose. All that for more than 80 dollars per night!!! We actually left after we had paid for the room and they refused to give even a partial refund. We found a much better hotel selection closer to the Canyon.

We had to call this hotel, we could not book online,at least they did not lose the reservation! We stayed 3 days in the beginning of Sept 2008. The hotel was VERY basic. The owners did not want the air conditioner left on in the room if no one was there, even though the place was hot and stuffy. The towels were so bald, you could see thru them. The bathroom window opened into a garage so anyone in the garage could look in. One of 2 chairs was broken and all the furniture was so old that Goodwill would probably not take it! The coffee package for the inroom coffee had been opened before we entered the room at checkin. The day after we checked in I discovered the owner had not left any coffee or filters for the next morning, I had to ask and wait. The second day there were no stryofoam coffee cups, just the ones left from the day before. We were the only people staying at this hotel at the time and there must have been a reason!

Even if we had a good welcome by the staff, we cannot suggest this hotel, because it is really old and quite dirty.
I think the furniture dates back to the 70s, everything, from tv to blankets.....
Bathroom was not clean at all....
Sorry, man at reception was really friendly, but all the rest needs to be changed.

I am perplexed to hear that the previous gentleman had a bad experience at the Sands. I went there last July on trout fishing tour at several places including Panguitch, Duck Creek and Otter Creek.
I was a walk-in and I picked Sands because they had an open Bar-B- Que advertised. Being from the city ( Los Angeles ) I was a bit apprehensive about going to anyplace in this rural area of Utah. It was my first time. Even though arrived real late, Christine, saying there was no rooms ready, she would prepare one for me. We talked a little and she mentioned that she also was from L.A. She offered me coffee (which was great by the way) and gave me a map of all the local fishing spots. Christine reminded me of some relatives, for she treated me like a family member. Her husband, Paul started talking to me and assuring me that Utah is the family oriented and receptive of all people and cultures, a great place to stay. They were right, I had the greatest time of my life. The fishing was great, the people were friendly, and I was treated like family by Christine and Paul, whom are just great people, you'll see when you meet them!
