I have been to Salt Lake a number of times and each time, stayed at a higher end hotel like a Sheraton or Hampton. Economics times being what they are, instead of paying 149-259 a night, I decided to investigate chainless hotels that are a bit away from city central. On the internet, I stumbled upon the Pavilion Inn in Murray Utah which is located at 5300 South, right off the I-15 exit. I had read many reviews about it on travel advisor and found much of them to be pretty accurate. First off, I paid 48 a night and not the 199 or higher, I would have paid at a more upscale hotel. I stayed there 5 nights so the way I see it, my 250 dollar bill was what I would have paid for one night at a more lavish hotel. My 48.00 per night stay included a breakfast bar, free wireless internet, free long distance calls, an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, free use of their washing machine and dryer along with free detergent, as well as free coffee and hot chocolate all day and cookies..... that were put out at about 3PM in the afternoon.
The place was a little dated and needed to be spruced up a bit but the hotel staff was courteous, friendly, and helpful. There is a trax stop, about 1/2 mile away at Intermountain Medical along with a Costco and other stores. The bed was too soft for my comfort and the ac/heater was a bit noisey but to save well over 100.00 a night, it was was well worth the price. I listen to Arthur Frommer who often preaches about VALUE in your stay. This place had many free amenities and proved to be a great value for the dollar.
Room Tip: Request a mountain view room on a higher floor for a more scenic stay. We were located on the ground...
