“Nice place to stay, perfect location”

After visiting Zion, we spent the night at the Thunderbird hotel so we could continue on to Bryce Canyon the next day. We were very happy with our stay there! This is a single story hotel so we didn't have to deal with stairs or noise from upstairs neighbors. The room was huge and very comfortable. The hotel has an interesting history that you can read about while waiting for your food in the restaurant, where they serve good home-style food. The best part of all was the wonderfully friendly staff. Although the hotel and restaurant are a bit on the plain side - a throwback to older, western hotels with no fancy or modern touches - we really appreciated the overall quality of this hotel.

Thank you so much for your review. Reviews like yours make all our work enjoyable. I agree that our hotel is the perfect place to stay between visits to Zion and Bryce. We have 3 sections of the hotel and it sounds like you stayed in what we call the Golf Course units - which are indeed just one story. The other two units are more updated, but we are working on this building currently. The history of the place is that of my Grandma and Grandpa, which I am very proud of. Thank you for you visit!

“Nothing fancy”

No more than a roadside motel and quite basic (old facility). Although the room was clean, we did find the hotel and the pool a little dated. The room we had (2 queens) was spacious but the furniture was ugly. Forget the tv: only about 6 tv channels available. Front desk was friendly. In the middle of nowhere. Didn't met our expectations. If we were you: there are certainly other places that are much better for a few dollars more. Would definitively not stay there again.

Thank you for your comment and I am sorry you ended up in one of the few rooms we have not yet remolded. I am thrilled however that the front desk staff was friendly. October is a rough time of year to visit our pool since it is outside and it's pretty cold here this time of year. If you visit in the warm months of the year you might have a different opinion of the pool and the area around it. TV is a problem out here in the boonies! There is not a huge channel selection.

Location however --- we are 12 miles from Zion's east entrance, 60 miles from Bryce Canyon, 85 miles from the entrance to the Grand Canyon. Some call it paradise like me, other might see it as you do - "in the middle of nowhere." If I had anywhere in the world I could choose to live, I would stay right here.

“Best pie ever!”

We stayed here October 19-22, 2011 for our trip to Zion National Park. We originally booked for 2 nights and liked it so much we added a third night, which the front desk person Ben gave to us at our original booking rate. We had room #200, top floor by the stairs, two queens with a little balcony. The room was extremely clean, and quiet with a small frig and coffee maker. Beds and pillows were clean and comfy. Be sure to check out the attached restaurant, the Thunderbird for really terrific service and pie. We found all the staff to be very pleasant, Ben, Sunshine at the restaurant, and Hope in the gift shop. We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and plan to return next year. We tried the restaurant across the street and found the food to be bland and nothing to recommend. Subway is also nearby which is nice for a sandwich to take in to Zion.

Oh! An extended stay is the best compliment ever! Thank you so much!!! Since you plan a return visit you must eat at the Buffalo Bistro is Glendale - The Motto is it's Terrible, but they keep coming back. The food is outstanding - rattlesnake, buffalo and other SW delights! I will pass your comments on to my Hotel Staff and those that manage the restaurant. Thank you so much for your review!

“Very welcoming”

We stayed here for 3 nights so that we could tour the area. It is in a great position for Zion and Bryce Canyon. We were given a good welcome. The rooms are clean and of a good size. We enjoyed a game of golf which was very cheap! The Thuderbird restaurant is great! Full of character with tasty reasonably priced food.

You have the right idea! Staying on the East side of Zion National Park is deal for also seeing other nearby parks and monuments such as Bryce Canyon National Park. I am thrilled to hear the staff gave you a good welcome! Golf rates here are unheard of! I think its $6 for 9 holes. The Restaurant has developed some character lately. I will pass that comment on to those who operate it.

“Ok for the Night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

There are not many choices in this area if you cant stay inside the park or in Springdale. This was Ok for the night... A little high priced for what it is..but you are paying for the access to Zion National Park. Would try Springdale again before staying here again. We made these reservations in Jan 2011 for a stay in Oct 2011 and there were no rooms in Springdale or inside the Park. Book early!!

Many of our visitors are also going to Bryce Canyon National Park which is 60 miles from us and some even venture to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon which is 85 miles away. If you do plan to visit these parks and even Cedar Breaks National Monument, we have an ideal location.
