“Filthy, Inconsiderate & ready for the Health Department to step in & make a difference!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

It is sad that when you are traveling in desolate parts of this country, you take a huge risk finding a place to stay for a reasonable price.

We were trying to make the most of our time through National Parks & get to the Four Corners. To do so, we drove as far as we could & by late evening, we had made it to Monticello. I had called ahead after investigating our options through several travel sites & tripadvisor. I see that they advertise clean rooms & I inquired about pet rooms & cleanliness. My family is highly allergic. I was reassured that the rooms were clean.

I have been traveling for over 8 months straight. I have had poor cleanliness from privately own & corporate/franchisees. I appreciate honesty & truthfulness concerning a consumers needs.

We arrived & were the last room to be filled. You could see work vehicles & trucks with trailers filled with recreational vehicles. This was definitely a possible one night stop for many.

It was late & two kids & one terminally ill person needed rest after a long day.
First we noticed the smell! Cigerettes & musty! Then the filth in the carpet, stains, of all sizes, everywhere. Next, the fridge. We are always appreciative to see one but the filth inside of it was picture worthy. The beds were full of hair when we turned them down for the night.

We knew the office was closed, the couple that worked there, resides there as well. We were greeted with, "Here's your key, you are my last check in, I'm shuttin' out the lights." So, there was not going to be any assistance with that demeanor. They couldn't offer another room & they already had our money.

To make matters worse, the room had trash under the beds from previous hotel guests, I presume. They had even painted the ceiling of the bathroom with dead bugs within the paint.

We took pictures & spoke with the front desk that morning. They could care less. We asked for a refund & they said, "I don't know how to do that." We were in no place to stay & deal with this person. We asked for a business card & went on our way.

Since then we have contacted the owners & their excuse was that they had fired all of their illegals & had no one left to clean the rooms. Just so you know, our room number was 221. We have yet to reach a solution with this establishment. We have contacted the health department & a lawyer.

“Old but clean and inexpensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

This place is very old. It made us laugh when we first saw the rooms. However, the rooms are very clean and they come with a TV, fridge, and microwave. Some of the rooms are much bigger than others. They are all very reasonably priced. Mine had a brand new mattress that was really comfortable. A great place to stay for one night.

“Bed Bugs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2009

Please stay away from this trashy motel. This Navajo Trail motel is not cheap, I thought from seeing the good reviews on TripAdvisor this would be a safe bet. We paid $48.00 for a two queen bed room in February! The place smelled like dirty rags and they had bed bugs. When my wife woke up in the morning she had three bites on her neck, we checked the bed and found little black bugs all over the bed. It was so disgusting. We went and complained but the manager was so rude and blamed us for the bugs. He refused to give us any money back. We reported the National 9 Navajo Trail to the health department and BBB.

Please take my warning and stay away from this motel. Unless you like trashy rooms with bed bugs.

“Pretty Good Deal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2008

This is a big tourist area in SE Utah, with no large towns nearby. During tourist season hotels around here are expensive, especially in Moab, a really neat touristy town to the north, and between Canyonlands and Arches. But at National 9 in Monticello you can get a room for $39 or $45, plus tax. The hotel is on the main highway and the rooms are large and very clean. No breakfast, but coffee is available in the office at 7:30am. There's not much to see in Monticellio, but the Shell gas station has a good Taco Time inside. Arches National Park is spectacular!

“Very Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2007

Although this motel has a long strange name it is part of a National 9 chain and quite nice. The room was very nice and well maintained. There is some road noise but this would be true of any motel in Monticello. Its far cheaper than the other chain motels in town. A lack of coffee in the office the next morning was the only negative.
