“Ok motel, could be better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2011

This is an older motel, with very friendly staff. I was a little concerned about staying here after some of the reviews I had read so I called them prior to my arrival to get their side of the story. After being reassured by the staff that the rooms were clean and the prior reviews were just out of spite, I booked my room. Lets start off with the best part of the room. I was in a non pet room, and the beds were wonderful, I did a bed bug check and their were no signs of any infestation. In fact the beds look new. The mattress firm, I am not use to such a firm mattress but that is a personal issue and has nothing to do with the motel. The carpet in the room was a bit tattered, not too terrible, no serious stains but it is aged or perhaps it was just the door section of the carpet that looked a bit rough. The room I was in was located towards the back of the property, so noise was not an issue, in fact I don't remember hearing any noise from any of the other guests. I know there were other guests because I saw them in the morning why I was packing up to leave that and the parking lot was a bit full. The room came with 3 towels for drying our selfs after our shower. I did not call and ask for additional towels but a 4th in the room have made it a much nicer stay.

Now for the bad. As I mentioned before I did call and inquired about the reviews about the poor cleanliness of the room. Now I have a few expectations when I stay in a room. I expect it to be freshly vacuumed, toilets cleaned, no hair in the sink or tub/shower and the drains to function properly. If the room is equipped with a fridge or microwave or Coffey pot I expect them to have been wiped out (and in the coffee pot's case properly sanitized). These are items that a good housekeeping staff member should be able to accomplish in a short amount of time (say 20 to 30 min) per room. I will go over each item that I found and what I though about them. Just so you know up front, I did not find any hair in the bathtub sink or, toilet the room was clean enough to sleep in and be comfortable.

Vacuuming room: I could tell that the housekeeping staff did a very quick vacuum job on this room. I'm guessing that they went in and only vacuumed the main through way and skipped the areas of low traffic. The reason I could tell this is because in those areas there were little bits of crumbs left over. The good news is they put forth an effort, and it shows the bad news is they need to try a bit harder.

The Tub: The tub was not too bad for this type of a motel, I used it for a shower and would have no problem taking additional showers in it, I however I would not use it for taking any baths. This tub is the type that has the anti slip built in to the floor of the tub its self. Any one with this kind of tub knows that dirt will gather in the anti slip portion of the tub and it takes a good scrubbing to get it to look clean again. This tub was not gross but, just not as clean as it could be. I think if they did a rotation of 1 tub per day and really scrubbed it good, they could keep the black marks from forming on the bottom of the tubs in all their rooms. I know in my own home it takes about 1 month for the black marks to form again and that's with 5 people taking daily showers over a 20 to 30 day period. This one little change could make their bathroom tub perfect in my opinion. But still the tub/shower was nice and clean enough to satisfy most normal people. The water pressure was wonderful nice and warm with a great shower curtain.

The Fridge: The Fridge had something left in it from the prior occupant (who knows how long ago that could have been) This tells me that they did not take the time to do a proper room check after the last occupant left. Who knows how long it has been since they last wiped out the fridge.

The Sink: Our sink had a crack in it making it look a bit run-down, however it did look clean and drained great. If it did not have the crack I would of given it a perfect, but since it did I do have to mark the room down on this point. Other rooms may not have this issue.

The Toilet: Looked clean no yucky yellow stains, They are doing a great job of keeping it clean.

The Television: Flat Pannle television hanging on the wall with analogue stations. If you ware looking for a pure digital signal this isn't the place for you. Very watch-able to help you relax before going to bed.

Summary: The main questions is would I stay here again? Yes I would, the beds are very comfortable and the prices are great. If the put a little more effort in to the cleaning I would say that this motel could become a 3 star place easy, right now I can only give it 2 stars.

Room Tip: If you don't have pets ask for a non pet room.

“Nice motel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2011

The motel was older, but so is the rest of the town. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The woman at the front desk was very nice and answered all of our questions. It looked like they were remodling some of the rooms while we were there. Price was great!!

“Filthy, Inconsiderate & ready for the Health Department to step in & make a difference!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

It is sad that when you are traveling in desolate parts of this country, you take a huge risk finding a place to stay for a reasonable price.

We were trying to make the most of our time through National Parks & get to the Four Corners. To do so, we drove as far as we could & by late evening, we had made it to Monticello. I had called ahead after investigating our options through several travel sites & tripadvisor. I see that they advertise clean rooms & I inquired about pet rooms & cleanliness. My family is highly allergic. I was reassured that the rooms were clean.

I have been traveling for over 8 months straight. I have had poor cleanliness from privately own & corporate/franchisees. I appreciate honesty & truthfulness concerning a consumers needs.

We arrived & were the last room to be filled. You could see work vehicles & trucks with trailers filled with recreational vehicles. This was definitely a possible one night stop for many.

It was late & two kids & one terminally ill person needed rest after a long day.
First we noticed the smell! Cigerettes & musty! Then the filth in the carpet, stains, of all sizes, everywhere. Next, the fridge. We are always appreciative to see one but the filth inside of it was picture worthy. The beds were full of hair when we turned them down for the night.

We knew the office was closed, the couple that worked there, resides there as well. We were greeted with, "Here's your key, you are my last check in, I'm shuttin' out the lights." So, there was not going to be any assistance with that demeanor. They couldn't offer another room & they already had our money.

To make matters worse, the room had trash under the beds from previous hotel guests, I presume. They had even painted the ceiling of the bathroom with dead bugs within the paint.

We took pictures & spoke with the front desk that morning. They could care less. We asked for a refund & they said, "I don't know how to do that." We were in no place to stay & deal with this person. We asked for a business card & went on our way.

Since then we have contacted the owners & their excuse was that they had fired all of their illegals & had no one left to clean the rooms. Just so you know, our room number was 221. We have yet to reach a solution with this establishment. We have contacted the health department & a lawyer.

“Old but clean and inexpensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

This place is very old. It made us laugh when we first saw the rooms. However, the rooms are very clean and they come with a TV, fridge, and microwave. Some of the rooms are much bigger than others. They are all very reasonably priced. Mine had a brand new mattress that was really comfortable. A great place to stay for one night.

“Bed Bugs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2009

Please stay away from this trashy motel. This Navajo Trail motel is not cheap, I thought from seeing the good reviews on TripAdvisor this would be a safe bet. We paid $48.00 for a two queen bed room in February! The place smelled like dirty rags and they had bed bugs. When my wife woke up in the morning she had three bites on her neck, we checked the bed and found little black bugs all over the bed. It was so disgusting. We went and complained but the manager was so rude and blamed us for the bugs. He refused to give us any money back. We reported the National 9 Navajo Trail to the health department and BBB.

Please take my warning and stay away from this motel. Unless you like trashy rooms with bed bugs.

  • Liked — Nothing, just leaving
  • Disliked — The entire motel and rude staff.
