Everything was wonderful--service, cleanliness, quietness, etc.! We had complications with our reservations at another B&B in Midway, so we called the Blue Boar to see if they had any rooms available. Luckily they did! The woman who answered the phone was very friendly and explained what they had to offer. Once we arrived she showed us the rooms that were available and we chose the Jane Austen--it was beautiful! It had a nook that two people could sit in to read or relax, plus it had a private balcony with table and chairs. The room had a gas fireplace and a jetted tub in the bathroom. Our satellite TV wasn't working, but they had a large selection of movies. On top of all of that, the food was out of this world! We had dinner in the dining room and took the dessert back to our room. We ate so much that we were miserable (in a good way)! On the weekends they have brunch and you can eat anywhere between 9 to 2. We were still so full from dinner the night before, but we managed to enjoy the 5 courses that they brought to us at brunch. We look forward to returning to this wonderful B&B. Next time I plan to rent their mopeds!

“Beautiful, but expensive, dinner experience!”

We recently stayed in Midway and wanted to splurge on dinner at the Blue Boar. Splurge is not the word! This is a very expensive experience, and probably not one I would do again. To experience the restaurant, I would suggest maybe lunch, or in the evening, try the small bar in the back of the facility (or outside courtyard). It was a bit odd, but there were only a couple of full tables while we were there and the service was still only mediocre. We had lots of time and it wasn't a problem, but you would think they could improve on that given the prices. Not sure what they would do with a full house! Overall, the food was good (but be prepared for the bill), and it's a beautiful facility to experience.

“Repeat Customers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2007

We just got back from a Father's Day stay at the Blue Boar Inn, we have stayed there before and have eaten there a number of times. it really is a beautiful place. our first stay was in the William Shakespear room, a balcony and sitting area, we read Romeo and Julliet in the sitting area. This visit we stayed in the Rudyard Kippling room, smaller, no balcony or sitting area, but very nicely appointed, remember there are extra pillows in the closet (and robes) since they use a ton of decorative ones on the bed and you really need two of the real ones to sleep. At check in the woman who was running the desk seemed new and a little stressed, we checked in, i went back to the desk to order a bottle of champaigne and she wanted to know if I had paid for an upgrade because we were not staying in a standard room, i told her i had not requested anything, only that the reservation agent booked us into a room that he liked.....guess he was new, they had him on the phone to verify what he said to me and what i said to him.....eh. The food for the brunch was absolutely wonderful, poached eggs, with crab meat, spinich and potaoes, great coffee and fruit. We have always had the best food there. We ate outside and it was lovely. Check out took a little longer than we wanted, one person at the desk on Father's day, who wouldn't acknowledge the people waiting in line, ....not a multi-tasker. The innkeeper did come out and say hello at breakfast which was nice. of course i would go back, the check in and out is easy to fix, the setting and the food is fabooo.

  • Liked — library overall set up of the Inn
  • Disliked — the room didn't have a seating area, but it did have chairs

“Dining experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2007

Without exception, my luncheon dining experience was terrible. Food was low quality and expensive. The menu did not adequately explain the items to make a good decision. The waitress did not offer any suggestions when food was ordered. Way overrated!

  • Disliked — The quality of food and price value; menu not adequate, waitress not informed.

“Beyond excellent!”

There are no words to describe how the Blue Boar exceeded our expectations! I owned a very successful catering business for 20 years, so we always evaluate our dining experiences in detail. The food was superb, some of the best I have ever eaten, the service was impeccable, the facility beautiful, and the hospitality warm and inviting. We will definitely return time and time again, and recommend it to everyone. Outstanding!
