“Very Romantic Accommodations, but Service Needs Improvement!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Over the last two years we have stayed at the inn twice. The property is beautiful and the rooms are small, but romantic. We enjoyed our first stay two years ago. Last time we stayed was a disappointment. The dinner was very expensive, but delicious. The breakfast was included and it was very good. All of the accommodations were nice and in working order.
The only reason why I would never book again at the Blue Boar Inn is because of the poor service by the receptionist. The last time we went we booked the Bed, Balloon, and Breakfast Package. For weeks prior I got calls saying that the Balloon ride was going to fall through. They wanted to change the date several times and I was easy going about the whole situation. We were excited for weeks for this getaway. The morning of I caught the flu bug. I called the Inn and they were not helpful at all. I asked the receptionist if there was anyway we could change our reservations to any other night and she told me, "Sure, but we will still charge you for tonight." I like the Inn but sometimes there are situations when exceptions need to be made. So with a fever of 102 degrees farenheit, chills and throwing up my husband and I headed off to the inn. I really felt bad for the people who got our room after us because I knew they would probably catch it too. Most of the evening was not spent at the inn but at the local IHC Instacare. The balloon ride was beautiul. It was well worth it if you have never been on a balloon before. The only problem we had with that was because of the flu. I spent the ride throwing up, which wasn't fun for the two other couples in the balloon and the pilot. Great inn they just need to change their service to be customer oriented.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Robert Frost room our first stay.

“Fine, but overall experience has declined significantly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

The Blue Boar Inn's facilities are still fine. It is in a lovely location, right across from a state park and near golfing. This is a true inn, not a bed and breakfast, which means you are getting less individual attention than you would at a B&B. In exchange for that, however, you have access to to a full-service restaurant and a little pub.

Our room was fine, particularly the huge soaking/jetted tub and the ultra-quiet and really efficient air conditioning.

But the service is just not what it should be for an inn at this price point, particularly when there are so many other options nearby. We experienced awkward check-in, including palpable friction between the desk agent (who was on the phone for a long time when we arrived) and the "bell boy" (who, too his credit, decided to try to check us in so we didn't have to stand there waiting). Guests should never see friction between staff, imho. We had trouble communicating our needs throughout our stay. No explanations of our room when we were shown it upon check in, for instance -- and with the complicated television/DVD set up, boy would that have been helpful. There's no sense of a concierge mindset at all -- you're on your own at this establishment. We were disappointed by a lack of polish to the entire experience, including having a chamber maid go ahead and try to open our door at around the dinner hour to do the turn down service, despite our door having the do not disturb sign (we were changing for dinner!).

The restaurant has also declined, again primarily because of service. And there is poor communication between the front desk and the restaurant which led us to not be able to take advantage of an internet special on dinner during our stay.

In thinking about what we paid for our room versus what we paid to stay at the Sky Lodge in Park City... well, the price difference is not really all that much compared to the difference in quality.

“Very nice inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

We chose this inn for our annual family retreat this year. We had three themed rooms that were luxurious and comfortable. The only thing that was difficult was that the bed in our room was elevated to the point that getting in and out was a challenge for us older folks. Bottled water, fresh fruit, and cheese was delivered to our room each afternoon, and turn down service included mints and on our last night a fragrant red rose was left as well. Our room was a suite, so we had an extra large bathroom plus a balcony. The property is beautiful, the architecture is unique, the service was wonderful, and the Sunday Brunch on the patio was delightful. The dining room is lovely and the food was delicious. The Inn has it's own authentic chef. Fresh cookies are offered each day and a bowl of candy is always full. We used the conference room as well as the deck to play some board games. We crossed the street to play in the park. We paid attention to the displays of Olympic pins. It was an extremely pleasant and relaxing place with friendly and efficient staff members.

Room Tip: Book early, and the rooms upstairs are more quiet and private than the ones downstairs.

“Amazing weekend getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2011

My husband and I have stayed at several B and B's but the Blue Boar Inn was the best! The service was great, the room cozy and clean. Lots of little touches including turn down service really added to our stay. The five course Sunday brunch was included with the room and it was incredible! What a romantic weekend. We will be going back for sure!

“Romantic getaway in lovely setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

The Blue Boar Inn is a lovely, European-style inn situated ideally for enjoying the glorious Wasatch Mountains or as a staging point for jaunts into Park City. Midway itself is a small, quaint town next to the Wasatch State Park. There's not much in Midway, but the town has made the most of what they have to offer, including maintaining a Alpine theme to most of the residences and buildings in town. There are a few restaurants, shops, and a rather good grocery store, but the biggest draw for Midway is probably the state park and golf course. Park City, with its world-class skiing, dining, and shops, is just 15 minutes away.

Blue Boar is tucked away on the end of a residential street, directly across from the state park. The inn has two stories, beautiful carved wood, many porches and private balconies, and several nice public areas, including a video library, game table, downstairs seating, and a small pub -- plus an excellent restaurant.

Our room (William Shakespeare) was one of the few that has a king sized bed. The room itself was large, with one of the biggest and deepest (jetted) bathtubs we've ever enjoyed. There was a lovely gas fireplace that threw off nice warmth and a large flat-screen tv. The inn was relatively empty during our visit, so it was nice and quiet during our stay.

We had great service, slept well, enjoyed the ambiance, and had a couple of great meals during our stay. To fully appreciate the restaurant (for dinner), it helps to really enjoy European cuisine, as well as to have a sense of adventure. It's the type of place where you can have pork belly, duck, and sweetbreads. If you are not into that sort of thing, you may be better off dining elsewhere. We loved it.

Overall, we had an outstanding experience.
