I stayed here five weeks at the end of 2011 while I dithered about a permanent residence change. It took me some time to decide to stay because the reviews online are not real great. I visited both the 33rd South and Midvale locations and was courteously treated by the staff there when I inquired. Both properties look to be to be nicely kept up. They are not new but they were clean and certainly as nice as many hotels you'd pay much more money for. Although both places advertised the same rate on their signs, in fact the 33rd South location was more expensive and the suite I saw was not updated like the ones in Midvale. In the end I did book at Midvale because the cost was going to be about a third of what I'd pay in a Real Hotel. When I checked in, the general manager, Jo Boyce, took care to put me in what she felt would be the best location. I appreciated this. In the time I was there I also dealt with a desk clerk I believe was named James and with their custodian, and both were also very courteous and efficient. There were 2-3 iffy characters I saw lurking about while there but hey, you get that anywhere. Some of the residents looked a bit down on their luck. BUT, everyone was courteous and friendly and frankly, I didn't hang around but went straight to my room and back. The place does allow smoking so if your nose is super-sensitive, this may bother you. My room was quite clean when I checked in but did have a slight odor from smoke (I think is what it was). Either it dissipated or I got used to it, because it was not a problem for me. The queen-size bed was surprisingly comfortable. I took my own bedding cuz I like to have it with me. The kitchen area was certainly adequate and the bathroom actually quite nice. The TV was a wall-mounted digital TV with all the best cable channels, including HBO. I could always find a Law & Order re-run when I wanted one. It was quiet. I very rarely heard anybody. I realize this depends on who is staying there, but I had no problem. One thing: Because they give low rates they do not provide daily housekeeping and I knew this. However, I expected once a week I would get the usual hotel clean-up--new linens and some tidying up in the bathroom. This did not happen. What does happen is they change your bed linens--I suspect this might be so they can kind of keep an eye on what's happening in the room, i.e., is it being trashed. Once I learned this it was OK and let's face it, hotel housekeeping even in swank places is usually a little disappointing, at least to a neatnik like me. When I checked out my security deposit was promptly refunded, and so were the state taxes that were no longer collected after 30 days. I felt it was good value for the money. The place was comfortable, the place was clean, I felt reasonably safe, and the staff was efficient and nice. It is in a very handy location with restaurants nearby and a TRAX line. I have the feeling the management doesn't put up with a lot of crap from people, and that is certainly a good thing for us more orderly types. I think there would probably be more positive reviews of this place if people took the time to write them. I would stay there again.
