I had the opportunity to try this facility after having stayed at the Hampton in Ogden. My choice was made primarily based on the reviews from others who'd stayed at the Hampton in Layton. Overall a good experience. One minor, maybe not so minor issue kept this from being a higher rating.
My first positive impression occurred during check-in. The reception folks were very friendly and very efficient. I don't know if it's particular to this location but as opposed to the typical 'cookie' offerings; this facility offered glasses (cups) of wine which is always a nice way to greet a guest. There also appears to be a nightly 'manager's special' complimentary buffet. The evening that I arrived they had Swedish or BBQ'd meatballs and the area was filled with revelry and laughter. The receptionists participated and added to the joyous and dare I say 'homey' atmosphere. I ate the meal the next night, chilli and baked potatoes, the food was very good.
The facility appears to be an older establishment, at least compared to the Hampton in Ogden or SLC (airport). That came across in the room furnishings. The room was ok, not good or great. The worktable in the room was small so some upgrades appear to be in order. Nevertheless I enjoyed two great nights sleep and even though I was near the stairwell could not detect any noises that kept me awake.
I mentioned the odor below in the suggestions to other travelers. Unfortunately my second night at the establishment, during the dinner buffet, I detected an unpleasant odor. It smelled, well bad, and I couldn't determine if it was from the plumbing, the kitchen or the pool. I will only say that during my next stay, I will not accept a room on that end of the facility.
I do highly recommend the hotel to other travelers due to it's location, service and atmosphere.
Room Tip: I would suggest a room on the side of the hotel opposite the pool and breakfast area. At one point d...
