“Unexpected value and comfort, nice, clean, friendly place”

I was returning to California from Colorado on 24 November. A major ice and snow storm stopped us in this small Utah town. Looked for a motel and found this GEM.
The rooms were large, spotless clean, updated and little touches of extra thought here and there. The pride of ownership showed everywhere you looked, parking and all the walks were cleared of ice and snow all the way to the restaurant next door.
We were stuck in town due to weather and it would have been easy to bump the rate charge up, but they were more than reasonable for the quality and size of the rooms.
Last and I value this more than any thing else durring the stay. When it looked like the weather was going to keep us from getting home for Thanksgiving, we were invited to Thanksgiving dinner.
WOW. who does that sound like offering to feed a couple of strangers ?.

“Yodel-ay-dee-WHO?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

This is an older motel that has been well-maintained and lovingly accented. Charming on the outside: retro on the inside. Each of the 26 rooms at the Swiss Alps Motel has the name and official seal of one of the 26 cantons (states) of Switzerland affixed to its exterior door. Even the word "wilkommen" (welcome) was painted on a wallboard in my room (#24 Uri). Other in-room room amenities included two large double beds, microwave, refrigerator and large TV. Outside, there was an inviting swimming pool.

The Swiss Alps is smack in downtown Heber City, within walking distance of fast food, fine dining, live-music bistros, as well as the post office, banks and service stations. Not to me missed is the quirky railroad-themed burgers-and-ice-cream place next door. (The pavement of the drive-thru is even painted as railroad trackage!)

Here's a chance to break out of the same old-same old hotel chain tyranny and save money in the process. It's a high value/high entertainment choice.

“Swiss Comfort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2009

I found this place via AAA guide. Called the day of, and reserved a room. First, I want to say that this is NOT a new building. Third generation means and older building. The air conditioner is in the outside wall. Unfortunately, the coffee from hopefully the day before was in the coffee pot (and the cleaning staff gasped when I told them, so this is NOT a normal thing). Having said that here is what I liked about the place.

a) large rooms with refrigerator, microwave and room to move around. Even a table with two chairs.
b) internet connection is free
c) big tub
d) plenty of mirrors
e) they waited up for me (yes, they do close at a certain time at night and the owner lives next door, is easily accessible.)

I ended up staying her an extra day and took the Herber Train ride, too.

“A great find in a tiny town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

Driving through Utah on a more or less random trip to "see Utah" in the dead of winter, we came across this place. It was the friendliest-looking place in a fairly boring town.

We're pretty snobby about our housing, in that we like places that are clean, friendly, cheap, and where we don't need reservations. The Swiss Alps Inn was all those things. The proprietor was a kindly gentleman who built the place with his own hands over the course of 40 years. It's a well-loved, but not at all shabby. The beds were clean and the rooms spacious, and there was ample parking right in front of our door.

Next door is a really charming fast food-esque place called Dairy Keen, run by the Swiss Alps Inn's owner's daughter. It's not really that fast, and the food is very yummy.

All in all, an extremely satisfying evening, night, and morning.

“Horrible Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2008

I recently made a reservation at this establishment only not to be able to stay there due to a death in my family at the last moment. Max, the owner, still charged me for my stay despite my pleas with him to understand the situation. It's appaling that people like this exist. DO NOT STAY HERE. You will be dissapointed to say the least

We are very sorry that this guest did not call us to tell us he was not coming until days after his reservation had been charged to his card.
If he had called even that night we would have been happy to rent the room to someone else.
We held the room for him and therefore it was his room for the night. We did not charge his card the full room price.
