While on a 2 week motorcycle trip with my GF and her sister, after visiting grand canyon on the way to Bryce we stopped and looked at several motels. Many were closed, or outrageously priced for crappy rooms.
This place looked like a place to stay and eat, though it looked abandoned due to lack of maintainence and weeding. The owner, an elderly man who had retired and left the motel to his daughter, had to take it over after severe problems, and has not yet been able to get the maintainence squared away or the cafe re-opened.
He was very accomodating, 3 of us stayed in a worn but clean room, and he loaned me what I needed to wash my motorcycle, which is very uncommon at motels. He also provided extra pillows and anything else we asked for.
If I remember correctly the weather was cool, so we used the heater, not the AC.
A lot of other motorcycle riders were staying at the motel, clearly the price of gas was keeping the 4 wheeled vehicles at home. Met some Canadian motorcyclists, and was able to get enough wireless signal to get them some info they wanted...but it was spotty. None of us had any real complaints about the motel....just wished we could have gotten a decent meal somewhere!
Other reviews have said it's like going back 50 years, and that's pretty accurate for the whole area. The motels are all run-down, the food at the only restaurant in Hatch, across the street and down a little, was a really crappy meal in a crappy building and poor service.
When we went back to the motel we asked the owner and he recommended a couple of places on the road into Bryce, and the one we ate at was much better than dinner the night before.
Hatch looks like a place that is barely surviving, and though we had a good night's rest at the New Bryce Inn, I would not recommend visiting anything else in Hatch!
If you have to spend the night in Hatch, I would definately reccomend the New Bryce Inn over the others we saw!
