“If you're skiing SnowBasin or Powder Mountain this season, stay here.”

One of the best places I've stayed at while skiing! The regular rate was over $120/night, but we got in under their January special at $69/night. And what a nice place! Huge rooms! Having just stayed at the Roost in Vail, CO, you could have fit two Roost rooms in one Moose room. Our room was a double queen; very nice firm beds gave us a good night sleep, the bathrooms are bigger than what you find in most homes.

They have a clerk at the desk until 9pm but when we called and said we would be there around 1130pm, she waited up for us. Otherwise there is a night manager in duty, reached by calling in house. The staff were friendly, the continental breakfast was typical fare, but nice touches make it seem homier. We didn't utilize the spa or other amenities as we were only staying one night there, but on our way to SLC and another hotel, we both wanted to go back and spend another night there in the peaceful, quiet, beautiful Eden valley.

However, I was told the place would be closing at the end of this 2012 season and being turned into an old folks home. So go while you can if you enjoy peace and quiet in beautiful mountain settings.

“great base for Pow Mow or Snowbasin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Stayed here three times during 2010/2011 ski season.

Red Moose is the perfect base for Powder Mountain. The shuttle will collect your from your door and bring you right back again. It's a short (and potentially wobbly) walk to the Double Diamond bar (beside the ski shop) which is generally where the fun is to be found in the evenings in Eden.

The rooms are big but rather basic for the price range, though I suppose you're paying for convenince. Would have been nice if there had been a spare snow scraper at reception too - I ended up doing the credit-card trick!

Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

“Very cozy and nice staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

We stayed here for two nights in June and enjoyed the beautiful Eden spring outdoors. The hotel room was large, had a refrigerator and microwave. They had free breakfast which we missed because we were late yet they opened it up for us. The hotel has an almost home like feel to it. The staff were super friendly. We came a day early and they gave us a discount. There are a few restaurants within walking distance. Overall no complaints.

“Overall a good stay but they need to work out a few kinks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

We recently stayed at the Red Moose Lodge over the July 4th holiday weekend. It is not a B&B but a basic motel with your garden-variety double-bedded room and bathroom. The views are fantastic and the room comes with standard amenities - phone, TV w/DVD, table and chairs etc.

They do offer a complimentary continental breakfast but it is lacking in variety. We stayed for 4 nights and every morning it was the same offering - Cheerios, plain bagels, juice and coffee. On more than one occassion we had to get a staff member to refill coffee urns or bring out a few more bagels.

The property has a nice, heated pool with lounge chairs and towels are provided. It also has a small fitness room and an outdoor hot tub.

The only issue during our stay was with housekeeping. Our room was not serviced at all one day during our stay and on 3 of the 4 days our trip we had to go down to the front desk to get bath towels. The last night of our trip we were given 4 hand towels to serve as our bath towels. We were told they were laundering the regular size towels. We made due since it was our last night.

We would probably stay here again - there is not a wide selection of hotels in the Ogden Valley - and overall, its a suitable place with amazing views.

“Decent but not worth the price...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011

The setting in the Eden/Huntsville area is idyllic but I expect quite a bit more than that at $120/night. The Red Moose Lodge is not a B&B, it's really a motel. No complaints about cleanliness, staff, etc. but the owners will need to update the property to justify the prices: our room was not well-lit, water pressure is only acceptable and we needed a couple of extra minutes to rinse off, the picture on the TV was fuzzy across channels, the breakfast was very basic....and, sometimes it's the little things that set the tone, in the bathroom you're not provided with a glass but instead the flimsiest of plastic cups.

I'd say that it's time to hold off on this one until they've put some money into updating the property. And then you'll still be staying in a motel, just in a nicer one that the one we found on this trip.
