Wound up in Beaver on the Friday night before Labor Day and figured that I would have no chance at a hotel. There are a lot of awful looking motels in Beaver, so I went online and saw this place was #1, even beating out the Best Western Butch Cassidy (which was full).
This is place is RIGHT off of the interstate and across the street from a very, very busy gas station. Getting in and out of the parking lot (there's only one side that you can enter on) can be problematic because of the traffic.
As you pull up, the sign on the hotel mentions the rates and has a sign stating "Registration" pointing to the gas station. Sure enough, there's a register at the end of the counter inside where you check in. I got $50 for that night, which was $5 more than the Rodeway across the freeway was advertising, but $2 less than a smaller place in town had quoted me. I had to sign a sheet that spelled out their non-smoking policy ($100 cleaning fee if you do) and that I wouldn't steal their towels.
The building is obviously very new, and that's even more apparent as you enter. Nice carpet in the hall, well-maintained and a surprisingly pleasant floral aroma. There are two floors and about 12 rooms on each floor, so it's a relatively small hotel.
The room was wonderful. Large, with two double beds, a microwave, a mini-fridge, a flat panel TV with limited cable, and one of those toilets with the two different flushes. Everything looked new, exceptionally clean and very nice. And I can see why they put that "don't steal the towels" clause in that sheet I signed: the towels are awesome. The bath towels are very long and wide.
The wifi worked well and was very fast. It works on an encryption code (series of numbers), but it's printed on a sheet below the TV. The cable was Dish Network, and they had the local channels (from Salt Lake, I think), Discovery, Cartoon Network and a couple of news stations, in addition to a few others. Nothing amazing, but it, along with the wifi, kept me entertained.
The hotel is far separated from town, but you do still have the gas station across the street, which happens to have a taco shop inside. There are a couple of other places across the freeway as well, but plenty of stuff within easy driving distance in Beaver. I was worried about the noise from the interstate and trucks coming out of the gas station across the street, but I heard nothing.
So points off for:
- The check-in being inside of a gas station. It was just annoying and weird but it probably saves them money.
- The walls were very thin. I could hear the people behind me talking and, later that night, had to run my a/c higher because of their snoring. But I'm a bit of a noise nazi.
All in all, this is really a 2.5* hotel with a 1.5 or low-end 2* price. I mean, it was better than a lot of so-called 3*s that I've stayed in. The Super 8 next door and even closer to the interstate was running $15 more that night and the other well-rated hotels in town were running even higher. If you're looking for a stopping point on your way down I-15, then this would be a very good choice.
