We arrived at the Ramada Express in Wichita Falls, TX at about 11:00 pm on Friday, August 22. We were in town to ride the27th annual Hotter than Hell Hundred bicycle ride. We had planned, prepared and looked forward to the trip for a year! You can’t imagine our disappointment and mortification.
Imagine our dissatisfaction when we opened the door of the hotel room. The carpet was not vacuumed and stained. We immediately closed the bathroom door and turned on the air conditioning because the second floor room was so hot. The sink had hairs in it and the washcloth was dirty and sticky. I took it down to the office and complained. A man on the telephone said he would “speak to housekeeping in the morning” and ordered a clerk to get us a fresh wash cloth.
When the room started to cool off I opened the bathroom door and it smelled like an outhouse. No wonder , the toilet had not been flushed since it was last used and the obviously it and the rest of bathroom had not been cleaned or prepared in any way for our arrival. See the pictures of the hair on the floor and the soap encrusted tub faucets. I pulled back the covers on the bed and the linen was stained and the sheets had holes in them. See the pictures of the bed linen.
I went down to the office to complain. The desk clerk apologized. I asked who the Manager was and learned that the fellow on the telephone I had met earlier was indeed the Owner and Manager. He was gone for the night.
The Clerk made copious notes in a spiral notebook on the desk and assured us that our room would be cleaned first thing in the morning. At 6 am I confirmed with the same clerk that our room would be taken care of and she again assured us that “the complaint was in the log and that our room would be the first to be cleaned”.
We returned to the hotel after 4 pm and the room had barely been touched. The commode was clean but that was it. See the picture of the dirt behind the sink below the mirror. The bed still had the same filthy sheets and the carpet had not been vacuumed.
I went to the office and complained. The Owner Manager was on the telephone and I indicated that I would wait for him to finish his call. I gave him an account of our experience and his reply was that he would talk to Housekeeping. I told him that that was not enough and as the Owner and Manager I held him accountable for the situation. He said he knew nothing of our situation and if he had known he would have done something. I asked him to open the spiral notebook and read the entry from the night before. He opened the notebook looked at a couple pages and said there wasn’t anything in the book about the condition of our room or our complaint. To prompt him I asked him the date of the last entry and he gave me a date of a couple days earlier. Now I knew I was dealing with an Owner Manager that preferred to lie to customers rather than accept personal accountability. I asked him to come up to the room to see it personally. He agreed to come up to the room. I showed him the holes, stains, and soiled sheets. He finally agreed that he did have some responsibility and personally changed the bed sheets. I showed him the unswept carpet and dirty floor and he explained it away saying that he was sure that housekeeping vacuumed and cleaned but that they didn’t get everything. He said that housekeeping had a solution to clean the soap encrusted tub faucets but must have overlooked it in this room. He then said he would only charge us half price. I explained that we would not pay for the first night. He did give us a full credit for the first night.
Beware of booking a room in this hotel. It is the worse hotel experience we have ever had including travels oversees!
