Everybody seems to have a story about this one motel they stayed in this one time when out of town on business this one time. WELL I HAVE MINE and i am going to share it with you.
My company booked me for a week here thru orbitz. Apparently the confirmation didn't go thru or they over booked and blamed the "travel agent" orbitz uses to book. Luckily they had a room (smoking) available for the night (Victoria is full because of the oil companies and a large construction project in town). I was also offered a jacuzzi suite but always found those to be humid and mildewy so i opted smoking room. AND even more luckily(?) for me i only had to endure one night. If it wasn't for the fact that the temps were in the 30's and no other room in town that night i would have demanded my money back and slept in my car.
I have been to old motels that look run down but are actually nice in the rooms. This place was NOT the exception. I was immediately hammered with the smell of mildew, a dead animal and cigarette when i opened the door. I am not kidding, it actually smelled like something died and rotted a bit in there. I turned on the exhaust fan, left the door open and full blast on the A/C fan to let the room air out. I eventually i got used to the smell. The paint job on the walls was sloppy with runs and drips over the trim. The lights were dim except for the light over the table that emitted a annoyingly bright bluish white light that is not unlike a street lamp. I LOL'd at the fact the smoke detector was gone with the wires just hanging there with no attempt to escutcheon the hole in the ceiling (which i am sure violates a state regulation). The secondary lock was not functional because the part that is bolted to the jamb is missing which i am sure violates some other state regulation.
The tub had a crack in it that most likely let water get under the tub and was most likley the cause of the mildew smell. The death smell was most prominent from under one of the beds. The carpet needed to be remediated by a secret government agency. The beds were comfy but I never really got comfortable because the comforter....i couldn't imagine what that thing has been through and a nagging feeling that bed bugs were going to drink my dry. I made it a point to keep my luggage off the floor and as far away from the bed as possible in case of bed bugs because it really seemed like a distinct posibility..
I never checked out the breakfast...i couldn;t check out fast enough.
I cannot stress this enough: Stay here only if you have to. If you don;t believe me....think everything i wrote here is made up? or over exagerated? then book a night in room 121. With any luck they have some corporate hierarchy that will read this and see for themselves and correct this Super Fund site.
