“You can do much better!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2007

We have stayed at many Econolodges in our travels, and the most exasperating part is how inconsistent this chain is. We have stayed in some that are excellent (Colorado Springs) and others (Dalhart) which are simply awful. The Econolodge in Van Horn falls in the middle. While it was o.k. there were a half dozen choices within walking distance that would have been better. The front desk service was very poor and the rooms needed some work. The rate was high for what you got in return. Van Horn is your closest stop to Guadalupe National Park so there are many hotels. Do some checking and stay somewhere else.

“Not What Was Advertised”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2007

Talk about disappointing. The "free" internet didn't work and the staff had no clue as to what to do about it. The pool was away from the building and when my wife and grand-daughter went to try it out, there were two men sitting there with a dozen empty cans of beer - not in bathing suits - gawking at them. Several other people started for the pool and then didn't go because of those hanging out. Of course, management didn't do anything about that either.

It was quiet, as advertised, so all was not lost -just not as enjoyable an experience as it should have been.

This place needs new management and staff that know how to run a motel and can make what they advertise available to their guests.

We won't stay there again.

“Comfortable, Convenient and Quiet at Econo Lodge, Van Horn TX”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2007

I enjoyed my stay at the Econo Lodge in Van Horn, Texas.

This hotel is located far enough away from I-10 so that you are not bothered by the traffic sounds. It is very close to a Pueblo grocery market, 2 gas stations, and Chuy's Mexican food restaurant…which I highly recommend for lunch or dinner. I would also recommend stopping
by the Van Gogh Texas Art Gallery and Bookstore to see original and remake works by Ran Horn.

I stayed in a very clean room by myself with a king size bed. The room had plenty of lighting, furniture, oversized bath tub, and cable TV…featuring the Showtime movie channels. The room also had a microwave and a small refrigerator. They also had an ice machine close by. House keeping kept the room very clean and would always replace my towels and soap.

The entire staff was very friendly. They serve breakfast from 6am-9am daily. The breakfast consists of cereal, milk, eggo waffles, muffins, coffee, and / or fruit. I would pick up my breakfast then head back to my room to eat.

The Econo Lodge Van Horn is a couple of blocks from Highway 54 which will take you North toward the Guadalupe Mountains National Park (60 min), or you can turn South and head down Highway 90 towards Marfa, Texas to see the Marfa Lights (1hr-15min).

There are many choices for hotels in Van Horn, Texas but I would highly recommend the Econo Lodge for your stay.

The price was also very affordable…I paid $59/night.

It's an older hotel but still a few years from a remodel. It's clean, well maintained and the staff is friendly. Other details...
Entry: exterior doors with key card access
Parking Lot: next to doors and well lit
Internet: free wireless
A/C: under window unit - worked well but blower was a little loud
Breakfast: free - cereal, muffins, waffles

“Left overs in fridge!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2005

The room was fairly clean but the beds were comfortable. There was someones leftover food in the freezer so looks like the maid needs to clean better. Again the contruction of motels/hotels is so important as there sounded like an army above us before 5 am. I finally called the front desk and it was better but I really think he went to breakfast. Not much sleep and a long drive ahead. If you are bothered by noise and need a good night sleep you might want to stay elsewhere or be sure to get on the second floor. The only problem with the 2nd floor is that there are no elevators.
Very little choice for breakfast and they only had little plates which made eating waffles difficult!
