Our extended family stayed at the Days Inn located, located at 4012 Stateline Avenue, for purely nostalgic reasons. During our visit, we occupied eight rooms. I inspected three rooms on arrival. All three rooms had a microwave and mini-fridge. Room 129 was typical of an old motor lodge type motel with fairly clean older décor. Room 126 had scuffs and smears on several walls. It was otherwise “undirty” and had a new toilet seat. Room 130 had small black specks on the toilet seat (I am guessing diffused cigarette ashes). Room 130 also had a chip in the toilet seat and a burn hole in the bedspread. Room 126 and 130 were smoking rooms; so, non-smoking rooms might be cleaner at this property. Updates seem to be occurring in all rooms.
Days Inn is updating the property "as we can." The sheets are FAR newer than the blanket and bedspread. They were replacing old mattresses with new ones the day we arrived. There is fresh paint on the exterior. Therefore, depending on when you arrive, your experience may be more positive.
Almost every hotel in Texarkana is either on/near Stateline Avenue or in the “mall area” (Richmond Road.) The two areas are only a few miles apart. Stateline remains the “main drag” in town. Aptly named Stateline defines the state borders, with addresses on side of the street in Texas and the other side of the street in Arkansas. The “mall area” is where many of the newest hotels and chain restaurants are located. The mall area is traffic central. Expect to wait through two or three cycles of the traffic lights to exit the freeway at Richmond Rd. Stateline is still the most convenient place to stay in Texarkana. I hope that Days Inn and other Stateline hotels will continue to update and remodel.
Warning - Trip Advisor may be having trouble keeping up with names of Texarkana hotels and their subsequent reviews. When I went to review the Days Inn, located at 4012 Stateline Avenue, it showed the address as 4415 Stateline Ave. Trip Advisor also shows the Rodeway Inn located at 5105 Stateline Ave as the “Texarkana Inn (Formerly Comfort Inn)." Competition between the Stateline hotels and “mall area” hotels coupled with infrequent reviews will likely perpetuate this problem for several years to come.
