Like other reviewers have mentioned there isn't much to choose from in the town of Terlingua, Texas. The rates are high, we paid $120/night (including tax) & the room is pretty bare bones. A bed, small table, dresser, tv & nightstand. The room is fine, but don't expect any frills. The people were nice & the location was great, 3 miles to Big Bend.

Those are the highlights, now the warnings.. The bed is horrible, it's like sleeping on a rock. The 1st night was awful, only slept a few hours. I think the next 2 nights we were so exhausted we just dealt with it.

The walls must be made out of paper because you can hear everything in the next rooms. Thankfully we went during a slow time but the other couple of people there were put in rooms right next to ours even though the rest of the motel was empty. So be sure to ask for a room away from others if available.

The "restaurant" that's located right next to the hotel we only ate at once because we didn't know on Saturday night you aren't able to order from the menu, you're stuck with a buffet for $11 & not worth the money. So I can't elaborate on how their regular food is nor how much it cost.

We went to Chilipeppers just down the street. It's across from their post office. Their food is great & good prices and they're actually open till 9p.

I wouldn't recommend the hotel but honestly I'm not sure if there's another option in the town. I didn't see one if there was.

Basic 2-star motel accommodation built around a well-operated central tourist depot (restaurant, gas station, excursions, RV park). Really about the only option out there, and a bit more expensive than it should be. Room a bit dirty, tired and old - as well as on a slant (the entire unit seems to be heading down the hill!). But lovely, warm, helpful staff (thanks, Bunny!).

My wife and i stayed here for two nights in October 2010, as part of a "Road Scholar" tour. There were 22 in our group. Our room had the following issues: 1) A/C noise. When activaterd the A/C was so loud it was impossible to sleep. It shook the wall in which it was installed. 2) Toilet. The flush was OK but the refill took hours. I had to use the plastic ice bucket to "top up" the tank. This was covered with hotel staff but never corrected. 3) Cleanliness. This was marginal. It's best not to look too close at the visible furniture surfaces, sheets etc; or, heaven forbid, the mattress and pad. 4) In Room Phone. It was blinking when we arrived. I called the front desk to see if we had a message. We did not, so I asked if the light could be extingusihed. The answer " just ignore it". Good thing we didn't get a message for real. This is a problem since the cell coverage in the area was marginal.

Suggest if you are in the area you book at the Chisos Mt. Lodge (National Park Service), or Stay at the Lajitas Resort and Spa. It's further from the park, but at least you won't have to sleep walk through the beautiful scenery.

When we arrived, the clerk was a little rude but that was the only rude encounter we had. The clerk recommended two restaurants, one (The Chilie Pepper) which was great, the other (Rio Bravo) was not all that good. The clerk acted like we were bothering him. Besides the male clerk at first, all the other interactions we had far exceeded what we experienced initially. Everyone was nice and helpful. It made for the perfect place to stay while working for 4 days in the area. Yes, will return and recommend this place.
