We stayed here in Study Butte two nights while visiting Big Bend National Park.
On the Plus side:
The location is supreme, 2 miles from the west entrance of the National Park. We stayed in the motel (we got a room with 2 queen beds - nothing special but comfortable enough) but there is also a book/souvenir store by the lobby, an RV Park, a FINA gas station, a cafe, and a small convenience store all together here on TX 118 at the junction of FM 170.
It really was a very convenient base of operations, and the host was very kind and soft spoken.
There weren't many TV stations on the cable - clearly not enough for our son, but too many for me - I preferred going outside and listening to the coyotes sing.
The breakfast in the cafe (not included, but not expensive either) is not fancy but there is plenty to eat from their buffet, and the pancakes were especially good.
On the Minus side:
The hot water had failed the day we arrived, and had only been restored late in the day. When we first got into the room, we found the bathtub bottom covered with sand. We called it in, and were told it must have come out of the pipes when they restored the water. They did clean up the mess, but didn't offer us another room, and my wife simply refused to use the bath/shower for the rest of our stay.
On the Information side - the lobby closes at 10 PM sharp, so if you might have a late arrival, make special arrangements.
