“cabin on ridge provides privacy, self-sufficiency and was close to Big Bend National Park”

We chose WIldhorse, when the park accommodations proved full in the busy weeks near Spring Break/Easter. As it turns out, we were much happier to be here - in what felt like our own cabin in the wilderness, with very nice views and open space.

We stayed in Cabin #1, which faces southwest, looking over the Christmas mountains from its covered porch veranda. (The porch is a great place for morning coffee or sunset beers!)

The Cabin comes with 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bath and living area. The decor is either dated or kitschy, depending on how you interpret wood paneling, burgandy polyester duvets and carpet that leans toward shag. I understand the trailer units may be newer. This suited us just fine. Slightly funky, highly functional. Would probably be great for a family, or budget travelers. (If you want high-end linens and room service, wine and chocolates and jacuzzi tubs - you may want to consider Lajitas....and I'm not sure you'll get it their either!)

It was relatively clean and bright. Kitchen was fully functional with full size refrigerator, range etc.. and even an outdoor grill.

It was a great homebase for exploring the park - about a 15 minute drive to Terlingua/Study Butte and the West park entrance. Close to "town" without any of the noise and without neighbors on the other side of the wall. Very private. Little groups of quail and the occasional road runner in the mornings.

Louise, the owner of Wildhorse Station was warm and friendly over the phone and very accommodating when we had to change our dates slightly only 2 weeks out.

The price doesn't reflect the luxury level, in this case, but the privacy and proximity to the park.

i agree with the previous reviews- the value and cleanliness of the trailers was excellent. the view from the front porch is wonderful and looking at the stars at night was very special for a city-dweller like me!!! the trailers were very clean, quiet and spacious. full kitchen, toaster, microwave, satelite tv, etc. the owner was very nice too. it's very convenient for travel to big bend.

“Loved It!”

Wild Horse station is fantastic with adorable little trailers with everything you need - bed, bath, kitchen and living room - too cute! We did all of our own cooking right there and hiked up into the desert behind the Station. Price is great, views are beautiful and the stars ... we went outside every morning at 5:00 to drink coffee and gaze at the stars. The owner, Louise, made our stay a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience!!!

“Wildhorse Station Get-Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2007

Stayed here for 3 days and enjoyed the friendliness and the surrounding area. Wildhorse Station has mobile homes upon hill sides with get views of the desert out front and you can hike upon the mountain behind you and lookout toward the Big Bend Park and on over to Mexico in the distance. There are concrete slabs to put motor homes or tents on with very nice restrooms with showers near by. The prices are within reason but reservations may need to be made in advance. We went to Big Bend Natl.' Park and small towns near by that were unique. The town of Alpine is about 70 miles North of Wildhorse Station on Hwy. 118. Would recommend a stay here and plan to return for 4 days this Mar. at Spring Break.
