“Terrible-DO NOT STAY HERE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

LaQuinta, Sweetwater, TX
Heed my warning and DO NOT stay here if you want a clean hotel and a decent nights' sleep! You won't get that there! This place is not what it seems. Online the pictures appear nice and somewhat like it is a newer hotel. It is NOT! We paid $95 plus taxes for what should have cost $29. at most! I certainly expected more for $100 bucks a nite!
We stayed here because the very nice, new Best Western next door was fully booked during the week and I called 2 days earlier. No one wants to stay at this LaQuinta.
Our room at this LaQuinta was old, dank, dusty, mold in shower, ratty carpet, etc. Even though it was suppose to be non smoking, we smelled smoke all night and had to stuff a towel under the door to hold the smell down.
The toilet was so small and low to the ground and wobbled. The sink was so low, it hit somewhere right above the knees and the tub was moldy with one of those nasty 'stuck in the bottom of the tub rubber mats'. This bathroom was out of a time warp. We skipped showering that night because we were NOT stepping foot in that tub.
They have several buildings disconnected from the main front entrance and that is where they put us. We think this building use to be something else and they converted it..... Very strange set up. Our building was at the back of the property and the location was a little scary. We worried about the safety of our car in the lot. The breakfast was not a consideration. We couldn't wait to get out of there! Beware-You have been warned!

“Not as advertised - NOT A NEW LQ”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

This place is old. You can see out front they have covered up an old sign indicating it was a rental car location, with a blank white sign (but you can still see the old remnants of what it used to be). Don't know what, besides a rental car place, what this was before, but it is NOT a new LQ. Don't be decieved by the fancy pictures on the website. The front desk lady would not let us walk through the hotel to get to our room, instead she said it was easier to drive there and park by the door. (Room doors at the hotel are interior; but she preferred we enter through the exit door...) This hotel is shaped like a sideways L. While looking for the ICE machine, half way down the L hallway was a trap door that segregated the smoking section from the non-smoking section. Of course I didn't know that until I opened the door. At that point the smoke had entered the non-smoking part of the hallway and fumigated the non-smoking hallway. Abandoned the search for ice and returned to the room, stinking of smoke. Old carpet, yucky tub (I didn't bathe). It's no wonder the Best Western next door (NEW--have stayed there & is nice), parking lot was packed, while there were 3 cars in the LQ lot. The only reason I didn't stay at the BW was because it was booked...on a Wednesday night! The LQ thinks they are nicer than they are. For ex. they requested my car year/model before checking in; they give you coupons to show at breakfast (like people are beating down the door at this place for the "free" breakfast). Breakfast was a non-factor as after the yuck experienced the night before, I fasted. I did visit the breakfast area. It was your standard, instant sausage, eggs, pancakes, french toast, kid cereals (meaning those coated w/sugar), coffee, juice, dead bagels, not so appetizing looking pastries. Had to ask for ice, what is it with these people & ice. Apparently there is a shortage of it at the LQ.

“Nice enough for what it is.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

We arrived in Sweetwater as evening approached, and the La Quinta was the only hotel with space (something to do with nearby casinos, I think). Access to the hotel is a bit strange; if you're headed westbound on I-20 the onramp to the freeway is very difficult to access. The breakfast buffet was sparse and the food quality was mediocre. I was a bit put off by the motorcycle parked at the front door partially blocking access (not a good first impression!). After all that, though the place is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.

“Older but Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We had a good stay at this hotel. The room was clean and the front office staff were quite helpful. Quiet Night's Sleep We would return here without a second thought

Room Tip: There is a back set of units well away from the I-20. Quiet nights sleep

“Adequate but smelly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011 via mobile

Of the 4 or 5 motels visible from the highway we picked La Quinta for a change as we had never stayed at one before and they always looked to be so clean and neat. Wrong. Smelly hallways, lots of grime in the public areas and the pool was so murky the bottom was not visible even at the three foot depth. However the room was OK so for a night on the road it sufficed.
