Of the 4 or 5 motels visible from the highway we picked La Quinta for a change as we had never stayed at one before and they always looked to be so clean and neat. Wrong. Smelly hallways, lots of grime in the public areas and the pool was so murky the bottom was not visible even at the three foot depth. However the room was OK so for a night on the road it sufficed.
The hotel is old and the updtes seem to be done cheaply. The staff was nice, the room was clean. I did have an invasion of ants in the bathroom the first night but the staff took care of it.
About 2:00- 2:30 am, in the morning of May 29, 2011, I was traveling on I20 thru Sweetwater, when I had a problem getting gas with my bank card and not able to get thru to my online bank. The auditor was very helpful in allowing me to use the Wifi in the business center. The night housekeeper checked the coffee and gave me some to keep me alert so I could finish my trip to Midland.
The hotel and management should be proud to have a great night team on staff on the Sunday morning when I needed them the most.
Oh, and I finished my trip safely,
Thank you

Check in was pleasant, the grounds looked good and the lobby was very nice. Our reservations were handled well and the staff was friendly. The room itself was a little small and darker than I like, but clean and the bed was comfortable. The TV, phone and A/C worked well. While the room was clean, it was obvious that this was a "refurbished" hotel that was something other than a LaQuinta in a past life. The walls had been patched in numerous places and painted over, just the patch... not the whole wall. The tile work in the bath was poorly done but functional. Altogether, everything worked that mattered and the price was reasonable for what was advertised. Where they really fell down was the following morning (Saturday) where the breakfast was advertised until 10AM. We arrived for breakfast at 9:40 and found that everything had been picked over and there was one set of plastic utensils left... and no body present to provide anything. We complained to the front desk and checked out to find breakfast elsewhere. The staff at the front desk did make an adjustment to the billing for the lack of the buffet without being asked to do it. Still, my overall impression is that I wouldn't stay there again.
