Stayed 2 nights, reserved 3 but left early do to weather. On arrival the location and grounds are beautiful. The pool is also beautiful. Check in was easy. Once we got to our room it kind of went down hill. The room was not resort feeling at all. It was sparse and dingy. The white furnishings were very dirty looking on areas as was the sun shades with many sticky and old worn in hand prints. The dining area chairs were in my opinion not fit for a gargae sale, they were very discolored and just looked dirty. I know it is discolor due to sand and age and use but they looked very shabby. The pillows under the pillow cases were so old and Yellowed we went to walmart across the bridge and bought NEW pillows to sleep on. As for the AC, well no matter what we set it on the room stayed uncomfortably warm until about midnight when It would finally feel cooler. Lots of negatives about the actual accommodations I know but bare with me. The on site eatery Las Olas was very very good. The food is priced right as in affordable and the quality is top notch. Our two lunch plates with tea and two full size excellent quality desserts was under 20 dollars! I have both owned and rented on the island for over 20 years, that is a bargain. I frequent Sea Ranch and I would say Las Olas quality and atmosphere and location and service beat out Sea Ranch in all categories. The European waitress at Las Olas made our bar drinks, she made them perfectly and was very courteous, friendly and fast. It was a pleasure leaving tips for such great service time in and time out. The pool and pool grounds are very nice, but only one hot tub was working.also the pool states it closes at 10 pm but it was well past midnight and people were making a very loud and annoying commotion regardless of posted pool rules, it is a shame that management did not quiet them down or at least point out the rules.
The place may advertise as a "resort" but ...well..falls short of that in my opinion. Over the years I have stayed in most of the better island hotels and condo's. The Peninsula rates with them on pool and location, but not on accommodations , comfort and upkeep. Would I stay there again, yes..but it would not be my first choice. If they were to tend to the cleanliness of the furnishings better and improve on atmosphere then it would move well up the choice Ladder. This review was off season so I do not know how the place feels in peak season. The Peninsula has amazing potential..it does..what it needs is to shut down a few days and do top to bottom look at what it is they are providing for their guests..bad first impressions are hard to over come. Good ones mean repeat business for years to come.
