“Best Value On The Beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Advised it would be cheaper to book direct, nice tip, so we cancelled our Expedia reservation paid the fee and it was sitll cheaper! Fantastic layout with everything we needed. Bathroom was a little tiny and the remote control a little old but for the price and the location this place is a steal compared to others along the strip. Great restaurant on site if you're not looking to walk to town. Beach access right at our door. If you're going to get a microwave, coffee pot, fridge and sink the "kitchen" could have used a few plates and some cutlery but there were cups and glasses. Not fancy or 4 star by any means but it suited us just fine. Many "winter texans" are staying by the month so it must be good!

“A Great Place on the Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed at The Palms in November 2011 during our Thanksgiving get away. This was our first visit to this facility (we have stayed various other places on the island), and we decided to stay here based on the reviews and because they allow pets – we had the two family dogs with us. We stayed on the south side, ground floor, room 111 (see photos.) The view from the room was not great, but that is the only negative. While this is an older facility (which gave it some charm) with exterior doors, the room had recently been renovated and was clean. The unit is divided into three areas: first a living area with couch, table, sink and mini fridge; second, a bedroom; third, a bathroom at the back of the unit. There was only a shower (no tub), but that was fine with us. The room was quiet and comfortable. A friend stayed in the next room (113), and her room was equally clean and comfortable.

There is a pool on site, which we used several nights; however, there was no hot-tub. We did notice that the pool was less crowed than other places we have stayed on the island – likely due to this being a smaller facility with less rooms. Also, it appears more adults stay here without families, although we did see children while there.

Being on the beach, access was easy. Each day we were able to go to the beach within a minute or two.

I would also highlight that there is a restaurant on-site. IT IS WONDEFUL! I had never heard of this place, much less visited it, in any of my previous stays on the island. We ate there two twice - breakfast and dinner. Both meals were great, and I will be back - whether we stay or not.

I strongly recommend The Palms. We will definitely stay there when we return.

“4-stars resort PRICE, 2-stars ROOM QUALITY”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

First of all, I would like to praise the service level at the front desk. The lady at the front desk was very nice and helpful, and that is about it for this resort.

I was torn between giving 2 or 3 star for this place. I gave it a 3 because of the service by the front desk.

We traveled as a family of 2 adults and 2 young kids. We checked in this resort by accident. Expedia screwed up our reservation at a true resort and they did not have any available room for us so they put us in The Palms Resort and said it is a 4-stars resort.

After dinner, we came to Palms Resort to check in, it turned out the 4-stars resort is a motel. Since it was late and my two little kids were very tired after six hours trip and spending additional hours in the car while I had conversation with Expedia, I checked in the Palms Resort so my kids can rest.

The king size bed was good, but the sofa bed gave me a backache the next morning. The room had kind of moldy smell of an old and dated motel. The flat screen TV could not get any good signal for any channels at all.

I found other better condition hotels for the same price the next morning. Did not try the café or the pool so no comments there.

Room Tip: Just do not expect to have good sleep on the sofa bed!!!

“Old-fashioned Beach Pleasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We moved to the Palms after staying at the Holiday Inn Express two nights - where we had a nice room, but terrible internet access - and no beach contact! The beach was two blocks away down a paved street. We could see a bit of water from our 4th floor room, but that was it....We had lunch at the Palms, found they had rooms available, so we packed up and moved for the remaining night, just to check it out for future visits.

Quietstay (May 2011) has provided an exhaustive description of the room, and ours varied only slightly. The bed was effectively a double, not a queen, but ours was not quite as soft as Quietstay's. We had four glasses! There are no utensils, cutlery, etc., so if you want to eat something you need to bring your own or venture out to borrow a spoon or fork from the café. The sink is about the size of a small bar sink. Our refrigerator, however, was full size. I ate my breakfast bar in the room, but cannot imagine cooking and eating a meal there unless storms were brewing offshore! I agree about the view, but in the absence of an elevator a ground-floor room might be more desirable. In any case you can head for the café, have some coffee, and enjoy the view from there! The setup was comfortable for just sitting and reading some email (EXCELLENT WiFi service!) before going out. Our room had a walk-in shower, which was fine.

The office staff were very friendly, as were the café folks. We ate our dinner in the café and the food was well-prepared; the menu was not as extensive as that of some of the larger restaurants, but it was a pleasure to just walk down to the café! There is a strip of flowering plants between the Palms and the sandy beach, and it must be a spectacular sight when they are in full flower. You can walk directly to the beach - bring some kind of beach shoes, as the first section of the path has a hard surfaced cloth laid on top that is very painful for bare feet. There's a hose to rinse off your feet when you return (the sands are slightly oily (remember all that drilling in the Gulf!) and you'll leave ugly marks on the floor if you don't clean your feet. This does not affect the quality of the beach or the water!

There are hooks outside your room for drying bathing suits and beach towels (don't forget to bring towels!).

The Palms is a no-frills, relaxing place - what a beach stay should be! We expect to go back to SPI - not at spring break! - and would be happy to stay at the Palms again. The price-quality ratio is excellent!

Room Tip: If you need a queen-size, select the king-size room. Second floor rooms at the beach end give you a...
