I wanted to get a room and the front desk person made a copy of my id and credit card
without asking. I asked him why the copy. He said that it's policy and all hotels in the island do it (a lie by the way, Island inn next door doesn't copy, neither motel 6). I asked how long they keep it, he said for 7 years. I couldn't scratch my drivers license number or some of the numbers on my credit card. When I refused on leaving the credit card copy, he denied me a room.
So you go stay there, they keep your data in file FOR 7 YEARS for anyone to steal. I think that's dumb, where do they even keep seven years of paper copies. I've been in places where they copy the id but they let you scratch the id number and when you leave, you can ask them to shred your copy.
I thought this practice was sketchy. Stay somewhere else, a place where your identity can't be stolen lol. Asking for the credit card is excessive, his explanation was that it's so costumers can't argue to the credit company that they didn't make those charges and get a refund. So to save the trouble of dealing with those kind of guests, they annoy everyone else. Nice Days Inn SPI, that's the spirit of customer service.
