“Murder Mystery Fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This beautifully maintained and cozy Victorian Inn was the scene of a well-planned (and original) Murder Mystery whodunit circa 1941 Morocco. We had never been to a Murder Mystery Weekend and didn't know what to expect. The plot was a laugh-a-minute and all characters were played by the guests. We had a great time and are planning on going back with our grown kids and doing it all again. There are several more mystery scenarios that are rotated so we will get to investigate the next "crime" from scratch again. Can't wait to show this gem off to our family. And the food was incredible. All cooked on-site and beautifully presented, the meals alone were well worth the trip. Comfortable rooms, great food, fun play-acting whodunit mystery -- we loved it all.

“Next to a loud bar”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

My sister and I traveled to San Marcos to shop at the famous outlet mall there. We were very excited about staying at this B and B. In the internet pictures, everything looked so darling. We arrived at 5pm to check in. We were shown to a downstairs room which looked cute. Then, Cathy, the owner said that there was a loud bar just on the other side of the fence outside the windows of this downstairs front room but it would be ok after 2AM (!!!) because the bar closed then. She said to put the AC on to block the noise( this is in January) and we could put on the white noise machine she provided. Then she said she would appreciate it ,if we didn't get any sleep, if we would write a letter of complaint she could take to the town!!! We were dismayed to say this least. I asked for another room and we were shown to the Blanco suite, which was upstairs at the front of the house. What a homely room and depressing to say the least! No charm-the carpet was stained and old, there were sloppy covers on the upholstery, the bed was lumpy, no robes, no shampoo,( we later found some ourselves in a basket OUTSIDE the room) and the closet doors didn't work as they were off the sliding tracks. There was no heat control in the room so it was uncomfortably cold for me.

The breakfast was yummy the next morning but we were happy to leave after. At $165 a night, this place is not a bargain.

I mentioned my complaints when I checked out but didn't get any apology or refund at all. Needless to say, will never be back.

“Fantastic Service, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

I recently hosted a photography workshop at the Crystal River Inn. It is a lovely B&B. The staff was very accommodating to our needs, which were many. The breakfast was wonderful all three days. The Inn catered a scrumptious dinner.
The charm and character that comes from historical homes compared to modern hotel is very special. All 125+ year old buildings require constant upkeep for issues that are associated with age and I noticed the repair man was very quick to address the problems (a bad storm cause a couple of the plugs to trip and the tent blow, nothing big.)
Everyone who attended the workshop was thrilled with the Crystal River Inn, so I would highly recommend it as a place to stay! Much thanks to the staff and owners!

“Small Wedding in October”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

I started planning my wedding last summer from Afghanistan. I was only able to do everything via email. The owner Cathy is a very sweet person, but she is not very organized, does not make a bride feel like she is planning a special day, or remembers very many details. She would ask me to call, which I could not do. She would respond to emails, with my thread of the email in it and ask questions that I had already addressed. The day my fiancee were driving down to the wedding I got a call to say the tent had been destroyed and I could not have my dinner outside, but the tent had to be fixed by the day after my wedding for another wedding. Like mine wasn't important enough. What saved the whole experience was every single other woman who works for Cathy. She better treat them well.

Room Tip: The breakfasts are amazing. Reme (sp?) did an amazing job. Crystal the grounds keeper is wonderful...

We did indeed have some communication difficulties putting this wedding together from so far away. Normally if there are questions on my end, I'll just pick up the phone and ask! But not possible in this case. Jennifer was sweet and patient and very detail-oriented so contacted me quite a bit; , and in the end appeared to be thrilled with the finished product, so the negative tone here is a bit surprising. But I must deserve the criticism, and yes, our staff is AMAZING! At the time of her wedding, I was juggling a nonstop series of ten weddings (as well as running the actual events) and that's a bit more of a load than usual. And yup, in the middle of the whole thing, about a week before her wedding there was a horrific storm that collapsed our wedding tent.

When I called her, I was trying to say that I didn't know if it could be put back together by the time of her wedding (and hers was small enough that if not, we could have held it in our indoor dining room); but I had a huge one the next day that could not be held indoors.....thus would move heaven and earth to have things right by the Friday night of Jennifer's wedding. I guess I explained myself poorly but was just trying to warn her.......just as I warned the Saturday night bride that hers might have to be au naturel with no tent! But in the end, it was fixed for both of them and that took a massive effort. Her wedding was beautiful, and her party was great. We loved having them.
