“Friendly, Clean, but outdated and w/cramped rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

I am torn on this review because we are Honor reward customers and my husband travels a lot and usually stays in a Hampton hotel or one of the Hilton properties and we have always had a good experience. So when we had to book a room in San Angelo I booked the Hampton without a second thought. Upon arriving it was nice on the outside and entering the lobby though cramped and small it was updated to the usual Hampton style. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating, the hotel was very clean and the indoor pool and hot tub were very nice and well maintained. But then we got to our room, though clean with the Hampton Inn white down comforter and sheets that is where the Hampton Inn quality ended. The room was small and outdated with early 90 style wood furniture, a big box T.V., and a small refrigerator crammed up against the wall right next to the bed, obviously an old hotel turned into an Hampton. The A/C unit in the wall made an awful racket causing me to have to put a pillow over my head just so I could sleep through the noise. The A/C unit must of been bottom of the line because it didn't even have a ON option so that when the compressor kicked off the fan would still run drowning out the usual hotel noise which is a must for me. You had the option of heating, cooling, or running the fan but not together. And forget about the usual thermostat on the wall, this late 90's room didn't offer that. We were not impressed at all and actually thought about leaving when the A/C started the horrible racket. But it was late and the kids were tired so we decided we would just let our dissatisfaction known in the morning. However the staff was so nice we couldn't bring ourselves to complain, so I leave you with this review so you can make your own decision. For the price I honestly would not stay there again but would stay at the new Holiday Inn up the road. However the service was outstanding and it was very clean which are both very important to me and would consider staying there for just those very two reasons if we had too. Hope this review helps you and maybe someday soon they will update their rooms to match the rest of the hotel.

“Overpriced for a Typical Standard Room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

I think the hotel was overpriced for a standard room (over $130). This was a senior citizen price. I've stayed at Hampton Inns on the beach in California that were priced less! It was just a typical hotel room. One thing missing that I should have asked for when I registered--there is no laundry facilities and that was a big deal that particular night. Breakfast was plentiful, but the usual offerings of Hampton Inn.

“So Disappointed...”

I know there are many things a hotel has no control of, such as noisey children in the room above me. Heck, I wasn't even that upset by the dead cockroach in the bathroom; it's Texas in the summer, I just assume that one or two would live thru their extermination attempts. But then ther are the issues within the hotels control- namely, the decision to steam clean the carpets during one of the most humid weeks of the year. At 10:00pm. Directly in front of my room. I requested a room change, and thankfully the manager accommidated me. The hallway carpets were soaking wet. The new room *also* had wet carpet. When I unpacked my suitcase the next evening , my clothes were still damp from the excessive humidity in my room.

Nobody spoke to me whenI left the property- not even a "Thanks" or "How was your stay?" I am a very loyal Hilton Diamond member, but I think I'll be staying at one of the Marriott properties for my next trip to San Angelo.

“A great place to relax at the end of the day”

I don't get to San Angelo much, so I was concerned about finding a decent room. I got that and more when I stayed at the Hampton Inn. Conveniently located near Loop 306, the hotel is near several restaurants including an IHOP next door.

The lobby was nice and well maintained, and the staff were friendly and efficient. The breakfast area was extremely nice, and I especially liked the "breakfast on the go" bags that they prepare for people who oversleep and have to run out the door. They had a nice indoor pool and hot tub area, although I did not get the opportunity to use it.

The room was nice and clean. The beds were some of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. They made you want to sleep in every day, which made me have to rush out the door on a couple of occasions. The room had a mini-refrigerator but no microwave.

I'm not sure when I'll ever get the opportunity to return to San Angelo, but if I ever do I will definitely stay at the Hampton Inn.

“Quiet place, good night's sleep, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2009

Our family of four had a very nice one-night stay here. This Hampton is somewhat older (it lacks a large lobby with atrium that the newer Hamptons have), but is in good shape. Parking was ample. Both the hotel grounds, the inside common areas, and our room were clean and had no unusual odors. The Cloud 9 beds Hampton uses were excellent - soft but not saggy, and we all slept very well. Wireless internet signal was strong on the second floor and at the end of the building. Breakfast was the usual Hampton fare - ample, tasty and presented nicely.

All the staff I met gave the impression that they genuinely enjoyed their work serving guests. They were friendly, and because I am not bilingual English/Spanish, I was grateful (and surprised) that even the housekeeping staff were fluent English speakers. (In this part of the country it is fairly common to encounter hotel staff who do not speak English. Makes it hard to do things like greet them properly or ask for spare towels.)

The staff also were well-informed about their city, and they cleared up a mystery for us... "San Angeleans" as they're known, are fond of putting out full-sized plastic sheep in their front yards, and dressing them up in various costumes (Google "san angelo sheep statues" to learn more). Apparently the area is known for sheep ranching, so the plastic sheep apparently both celebrate this fact and provide artistic release. But this uninitiated traveller did not know, so it was a little odd to see all these decorated plastic sheep about town and not know what the deal was. The staff of course knows all about this and eagerly filled us in on the "rest of the story".

It was especially nice that the hotel guests and the neighborhood all were quiet the weekend night we were there. Though the hotel is just off an in-town highway, it's a little out of the way in a quiet (south) part of town. We paid a bit more to stay here as opposed to the newer Fairfield Inn that was closer to the wedding ceremony we were in town to attend. So happened we drove by the Fairfield on the way to the ceremony, and noted it looked to be a very nice property, but located on a busy main street and directly across the street from the sports complex for Angelo State University. Though the Fairfield has more restaurants close by, I was thankful for the quieter location of our Hampton.

Overall - this Hampton was a very good place. We'll stay here if ever we're back in San Angelo.
