I would stay at Sandcastle again, although parts of the resort are a bit outdated. The enclosed parts of the hallways are dark and damp, but this is the beach and everything is damp! The front desk staff were not rude, but they weren't models of customer service. Be aware that the check-in time is "between 4pm and 6pm," so call ahead if you don't want to take the chance of waiting. On a positive note, the grounds are beautiful. Palm trees, flowers, nice pool and two hot tubs. The boardwalk to the beach crosses over a lovely pond that is full of turtles. The boardwalk and pool are lighted at night and that creates a nice ambiance. We stayed on the third floor and our patio had a great view of the grounds and the ocean. I enjoyed watching the lights at night and watching the palm trees sway in the breeze. Fitness center: no free weights and the cardio machines are quite old. The treadmill worked fine. Housekeeping: consisted of stocking fresh towels and making the bed. A nice addition to the housekeeping duties would be sweeping and/or vacuuming the floors and cleaning the bathroom. Laundry: no washer/dryer in condo 329. There is a laundry room on site, but I did not use it. Sandcastle is very conveniently located to town. Close to the grocery store, restaurants and shops of Port Aransas. If it rains while you're visiting, go to Fire It! Ceramics. Melissa is the owner, along with her husband, and she will guarantee a great time for both kids and adults. Boomer, the shop cat, is also sure to impress. My husband and I stayed here in September (during a rainy week) and I imagine that this resort must be full of activity in the summer. I think that Sandcastle is overpriced, but I like being close to town, having a full kitchen, easy beach access and a hot tub.
I definitely recommend condo 329. The unit is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath and is updated. No funky decor, window units or wood panels on the wall! The central air worked well. Living area and bedroom have decent carpet and the rest of the unit has tile floors. Plenty of room for 2 adults. You could put a child on the sleeper sofa. Kitchen: updated with a tile backsplash, granite countertops, brushed nickel fixtures and black appliances. Except for the fridge. It is older than the stove and microwave, but works well and is clean on the inside. The coffee mugs are tiny, so if you like larger mugs, bring your own. Also, no food storage containers, like Pyrex or Tupperware, and no sharp knives. Equipped with tea kettle, coffee machine, toaster, can opener. No wine opener (corkscrew) and someone did not return the loaner corkscrew to the front desk. Coffee filters and paper towels are provided. Bathroom: updated with tile backsplash, granite countertops, brushed nickel fixtures and nice lighting. Tub/shower is clean and the earth toned seashell tiles are a tasteful touch. Good water pressure and enough hot water for a long shower. I loved the view and could see the ocean from the kitchen. Thought I would be disappointed not to be oceanfront, but I liked having the view of the pool area, boardwalk, grounds and the ocean. Best of all worlds! The boardwalk and pool are lighted at night, which is very pretty. Busy season note: you might hear the pool noise from this condo. The walls are thin and you might hear your neighbors, but the A/C provides nice white noise.
Both my husband and I agree that we would rent this condo again. Kudos to the owners of unit 329! I am happy to answer any questions about the resort and condo.
