“Great location - nice room & reasonable rate”

The grounds were lovely. Walking distance to beach if you aren't toting a lot of stuff around. We drove. Not a lot of parking at Seashell. Room was big & failry clean, kitchen fully stocked. Floor seemed dirty, bathroom was clean and sheets were fresh. They need to wash their blankets more often. Extra blanket in closet was soiled. Housekeeping arrived by 9am each day to replace towels if we wanted them to and that was rather early. We're on vacation and wanted to sleep in a couple of days.

“Sea Shell Village is our home in Port A”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

I can't say enough about this property; it's lush, it's homey, it's spacious, and the people are great! My family now has a favorite room, 707, which is a King Suite. What I love about this property is that we can hole up in our room, open all the shutters, play games and never feel cramped. Our room does not feel like a hotel room.

I've done two other reviews of this property from previous stays and you can see those reviews for all the details, but I do want to add some new information. First, the cleaning service is much friendlier and more helpful. We had people pop by our rooms every morning to replace towels and toiletries and they were very visible and helpful. We were no longer confused about how to get supplies, and they offered linen service after we'd been there a few nights although we didn't need it.

Additionally, management has added a binder with helpful information about the hotel and the area. Thank you very much for that! Had this been our first stay, I would have had no question about the service policies.

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but there is also a guest laundry, and they provide the detergent. I think it was five quarters for the washer and four for the dryer, and the machines were efficient and spacious so we only needed to do one load. I appreciated clean clothes close to the end of our stay.

The pool and grounds are fabulous as they have always been, although I too was heartbroken at the loss of some of the tropical plants due to a frost this past winter. The property is still gorgeous and lush, but those of you who have been here before will probably miss the tropical hibiscus. Newcomers will never notice anything but the healthy abundance of palm trees. My kids had a blast in the pool as always, which has a very popular barbecue area.

I think what impressed me most about this stay was the true village feeling of this property. People are around, they talk to each other, there are parties and barbecues and lots of kids. It's a great environment for a family, and we felt very peaceful and relaxed just hanging out in our rooms. I can't say thanks enough to everyone for another great vacation! It was great to meet everyone Martha and her daughter (Jill?? I hope!) this time.

By the way, the internet service (wi-fi) was great too and I needed it this time. :)

“Back to the Sea Shell Village, and happy as a clam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

I've stayed at the Sea Shell Village Resort three times now, and enjoyed it immensely each time. If you want a point by point review, check out my review from June/July 2009. Otherwise, here's an update:

I have always stayed in one of the newer buildings, Building 7 particularly, in a king suite, and I LOVE the room. It is updated, fresh, casual, convenient, and has a great view of the ocean. I also enjoy the back porch overlooking the pool. I appreciate the full-sized appliances that are ALWAYS clean, and absolutely love more than you can imagine the simple convenience of a closet light that works like a refrigerator light: off when closed, on when open.

I don't know why some people complain about the pool. My kids have a blast in that pool every time, and I don't know, maybe they're expecting a larger resort-style pool. We've been perfectly happy with the pool.

The service is about the same: mostly self-service. BUT the rooms are clean to begin with and that's sufficient for me; I can take out my trash. I do miss momentarily the straightened-up bed and refilled bathroom products I get at other hotels, but not enough to move my business or to pay a higher rate. So, I'll take gorgeous grounds, a clean, updated room, and an overall RELAXING trip over someone making my bed.

I didn't note last time, but will this time, that the carpets are dirty like I've noticed in many beachside hotels. Not to look at, but my feet turn black after walking around on them all day. I think it's the sand, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I'm not sure anything can be done about it, but if I had to change one thing, that would be it.

Thanks Sea Shell Village, we'll be back!!

Oh, it's worth mentioning again, Port A Pizzaria has great pizza in a casual cheap buffet atmosphere, and Moby Dick's is a touristy, cutesy restaurant with surprisingly great food!!

“Quaint and Relaxing”

My sister and I stayed two nights at Seashell Village and enjoyed our stay immensely. The exterior of the resort is beautiful and pleasing to the eye. The cottage we stayed in was clean and well equipped for our stay. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The maintenance of the property is great and the short distance to the beach was awesome. I am looking forward to my next trip to Port A where I will definitely stay at Seashell Village again.

“Need new housekeeping or better quality control.”

Nice staff and close to the beach..the big problem is there housekeeping isn't up doing the job. Dirty floor and mildew on the shower curtain and found in hair in the bed. It's really a shame because we really like this place. Having second thoughts about another visit because we stayed here twice and both times I've had the same cleanliness problem. Hoping they get better housekeeping and have somebody check their work.

If you stay here check everything in the room first thing when you arrive.
