I've stayed at the Sea Shell Village Resort three times now, and enjoyed it immensely each time. If you want a point by point review, check out my review from June/July 2009. Otherwise, here's an update:
I have always stayed in one of the newer buildings, Building 7 particularly, in a king suite, and I LOVE the room. It is updated, fresh, casual, convenient, and has a great view of the ocean. I also enjoy the back porch overlooking the pool. I appreciate the full-sized appliances that are ALWAYS clean, and absolutely love more than you can imagine the simple convenience of a closet light that works like a refrigerator light: off when closed, on when open.
I don't know why some people complain about the pool. My kids have a blast in that pool every time, and I don't know, maybe they're expecting a larger resort-style pool. We've been perfectly happy with the pool.
The service is about the same: mostly self-service. BUT the rooms are clean to begin with and that's sufficient for me; I can take out my trash. I do miss momentarily the straightened-up bed and refilled bathroom products I get at other hotels, but not enough to move my business or to pay a higher rate. So, I'll take gorgeous grounds, a clean, updated room, and an overall RELAXING trip over someone making my bed.
I didn't note last time, but will this time, that the carpets are dirty like I've noticed in many beachside hotels. Not to look at, but my feet turn black after walking around on them all day. I think it's the sand, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I'm not sure anything can be done about it, but if I had to change one thing, that would be it.
Thanks Sea Shell Village, we'll be back!!
Oh, it's worth mentioning again, Port A Pizzaria has great pizza in a casual cheap buffet atmosphere, and Moby Dick's is a touristy, cutesy restaurant with surprisingly great food!!
