I've stayed at most places that were in my price range at Port Aransas. I'd have to say that the HIE is one of my favorites. The rooms I've stayed in were spacious, clean and comfortable. I like the refrigerator, coffee maker, and ice machines just down the hall. The staff has always been very nice and helpful, and it's great to have a decent free breakfast. They say they have smoking rooms, but found that's not so. It's small, so you don't spend much time getting to your car. The pool and hot tub are small, but usually not crowded. If you're looking for something different to do... rent a golf cart. It turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought. We found the best price at S. Allister/ 361 & Ave G, just behind the Stripes;

Going to port aransas for my 3rd anniversary and my hotel of choice is the HIE. Enjoyed my time before! Prices are great, rooms comfy, service great!

We stayed for three nights in a two-room suite. The hotel is a short walk (about a quarter of a mile) from the beach. Nice pool and hot tub. Service was good. Shower did not work very well. Breakfast was standard for Holiday Inn Express. Windows don't open. I didn't see anything better in Port A and would stay there again.

Stay here, not at the 1980's condo's with shag carpeting. You are next to the beach, it's clean, quiet, and has great breakfast and pool area.
