We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the private air strip. There's not alot to choose from in regards to lodging in Port Aransas for just a night or two and the pictures of this looked nice.
The room and property was clean but nothing special for the price that is charged. Then again, all the hotels are pricey in that area and I've yet to determine why.
We didn't have a car and the trolley was not running so we had to resort to cabs which were fine.
The pool was nice but overloaded with young people from diapers (or lack therof) up to about 40. With the price of the hotel I was amazed at how these people could afford it. When another hotel door would open, 8 people would file out with pillowcases in place of suitcases. In the entire hotel, I only saw two other rooms where the people had LUGGAGE. I was starting to think this must be the hispanic version of the underground railroad!
Restaurants we ate at were not good, and we really quizzed the drivers and front desk before hand. After paying over $200/nite for the room, we figured we should at least match it with an expensive meal. Nothing special, in fact, the whole trip was a disappointment.
We didn't make the 6-9am breakfast. Otherwise there was no food, no bars, NOTHING within walking distance.
The area behind the hotel was marshy with ditches and the mosquitos were rampant poolside.
The beach is simply awful. I've seen black sand before on islands that have volcanic activity, but this was black sand that stained your feet (like oil). Trash, dirty diapers.
Not a destination I would go back to at all.
