I chartered a flight to take my dog to Plano to have surgery. I had my 87 year old mother with me (for moral support!). Having never been to Plano, I had used (before I left home) mapquest, google maps, and even had AAA do maps for me to drive from the airport to the hotel, hotel to the vet clinic, vet clinic to the hotel, and hotel back to the airport. (Are you following...the hotel was critical in all of my planning/instructions). I arrived there when I told them I would; confirmation number in hand to be told they had booked me elsewhere...there was no room for me, my mother, and my dog. I spoke with the manager who told me they'd called (they called at 10:44...how could I possibly get to their property from Amarillo in 1 hour??) and even so, what difference could that possibly make. My plans were made and confirmed, and they simply chose not to honor them. They sent me to the Staybridge Suites on 301 Silverglen Drive. I should send the Marriott a thank you note for that, but I digress; see my other review...Staybridge Suites on Silverglen Dr. is FABULOUS!
The Marriott told me they'd pay for the 1st night plus my non-refundable pet fee at the Staybridge. I even called the manager at the Marriott back to double confirm that fact once I was settled in at the Staybridge and she assured me there would be no problem with their payment of either my 1st night’s room nor the pet fee. What, in fact, happened is that they reneged on the pet fee and refused to pay that to the Staybridge.
I told a friend of mine of my experience and he said the same thing had happened to him at a Marriott, so apparently, double booking and refusing to honor confirmations is the status quo.
Your accommodations on any trip are, frankly, the most important part of that trip. If you think you have your trip planned and your hotel confirmed and you've booked with Marriott, I believe I would re-think your plans.
If you are going to Plano, by-pass the Marriott Residence Inn and head straight for the Staybridge Suites on Silverglen!
I will never book at any Marriott again. It’s simply not worth the risk.
