We have stayed at this Best Western Inn twice. The one time it wasn't bad. Arrived late, left early next day. Room good size, clean. Bed comfortable. A/C a bit weak. Front desk man friendly, however, management obviously checks on them all the time-they have cameras in the lobby and I think as soon as someone comes in, the management/owners call to inquire about the registering client. Spooky.
Second visit, BAD. We were traveling with our kids. Room was large and comfortable. However, this was when SFASU was starting up in the fall. Groups of students hung around the stairwells, smoking and drinking til 3 AM. We looked out our window several times, and they didn't move. We asked them to move off somewhere else and got laughed at. We called the front desk and were told they couldn't do anything about it. I called the La Quinta across the street and reserved a room for the rest of the week, and asked, bluntly, if they allowed such things. No, and we did not observe anything like this while we stayed there.
We stayed at this hotel 4 nights. Management was ridiculous. Our room was not cleaned twice. We departed every day by noon. Apparently, if we don't depart by the time housekeeping is done with other rooms, they just skip yours. Saving money, is what the young lady housekeeper told me. No benefits. Difficult management. Front desk person was very friendly, again, but was scared of management-very noticeable. Same scenario with the cameras as previously stated.
We approched management about the cleaning issues and were told it was our problem. They did bring clean towels as asked and took the dirty ones. Our room, when cleaned, was given a light once over. No vacuuming, no dusting, the bathroom half cleaned, the coffee pot left with old coffee in it. We are very considerate guests-we pick up our luggage and put it on shelves or luggage racks so they can vacuum easily. We wipe up our messes and pile our towels in one corner of the bathroom. We pointed this out to them and they said it wasn't a big deal to "help" them. They would not clean our room, give us a discount, and they suggested that we would probably be happier somewhere else. After 3 days and 4 nights of this, we did move to the La Quinta. I also called Best Western 800 number and these people called management to ask them for better service for us and they called me back and said they had gotten nowhere with them. I also called AAA and my charge card company. Maybe a bit of overkill, but hey, we didn't want to move. The room is a very nice size, and the pool is very nice, also.
After leaving, we contacted the local chamber of commerce and they said they were shocked at this treatment.
The owners obviously run roughshod over their employees and there is a large turn around according to the desk person. This person was out front sneaking a smoke, and felt safe enough to comment on these issues. We wouldn't stay again, nor recommend it to anyone else. Though the new Holiday Inn is very nice, it is very expensive. We suggest you try the La Quinta.
