“Idyllic Lyndale”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2009

The perfect antidote to modern life. We spent an idyllic holiday at Lyndaleon Skye. Lazy lunches of fishing-boat fresh langoustine and crab before strolling on the white sands of Shell Beach. Exploring ancient burial mounds and archeological sites before discovering the ruined cathedral of the Isles hidden on a river-island at Skeabost.
Another day cruising a sea loch watching seals, sea-birds and dolphins – a driftwood fired sausage lunch on a remote rocky beach. And finally, most spectacularly, an evening warmed by a roaring log fire and a single malt, idly watching a blood red sun melt into the gunmetal seas off The Hebrides.
Lyndale’s idyllic and central location on Skye gave us easy access to the whole island and at a secluded hideaway where we could simply beachcomb or just watch the sunset..

“Lyndale House is in a magical and serene location, which allows you to unwind easily.”

We recently stayed at the Gate Lodge which is located at the head of the drive to Lyndale House.
This is a beautiful "pepper pot" style 2 bedroom cottage which is light and airy but also snug and warm at night.
The kitchen is well equipped and the Rayburn stove is easy to use, the wood burner gave a lovely warm glow at night.
We found Linda and Marcus most helpful with useful tips of places to visit on Skye.
Lyndale House itself looks over the loch and has beautiful sunsets.
We found the location really good for exploring Skye with its wonderful scenery.
Would recommend visits out to Glen Brittle, The Cuillins and the Trotternish peninsula.
We had a couple of lovely walks out to the ligthouse at Neist Point and also a short walk near Portreee. We would recommend a visit to Loch Bay too.
Definitely worth the visit it was one of our most memorable holidays with some good food to be found at the various restaurants dotted round the island.
We will visit again

“Fantastic Stay on Skye”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2009

We booked to stay on Skye with Lyndale House, staying at the gate house for a week.
We found Marcus and Linda most helpful and welcoming and the cottage was fantastic.
There was nothing better than spending the day out to return to the cottage's wood burner and a wee dram.
The cottage was ideally placed for visits to all parts of skye and the mainland.

I'm not sure i could recommend the cottages highly enough, they were well decorated, well appointed and cosy. Just what we wanted.

Thanks again Marcus and Linda.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2009

We stayed at the Gate House self catering cottage, part of Lyndale in September. The internet photo's make it look exceptional so we were disappointed to find that it was average only. We had booked and then seen the poor review and decided to ignore it! We are not "grumblers" so thought it would be as excellent as the reviews said.

POSITIVES- Lyndale is a beautiful location and the owners are helpful. The cottage was warm and dry. Lovely log fire, comfy bed, mostly peaceful. No noise from road that runs near by.
NEGATIVES - SLUGS - a problem if you get up early! I was given slug pellets but it was too early to say if this would work. As it is a recurring problem I would think not.

Main Bedroom has wardrobe with a drawer that smells strongly of moth balls and no other drawers at all there fore no where to put clothes away in the bedroom. We therefore kept our clothes in the second bedroom as we were a party of two not four.
No instructions re the heating system and the pipes were knocking for hours in the night turned out to be because we had left the heating on (?)

Stating the obvious it is a gate house so the small amount of passing traffic goes right by the kitchen living room large windows so no feeling of privacy.

No internet access as stated unless you drive nearer the main house and no moblie reception. (This is positive or negative depending on what you need/have to do)
We left with very mixed feelings although expecting to be enraptured given the reviews.

“Idyllic escape on this lovely island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2009

I've never been to Skye before but have fallen in love with it on my first visit. Staying at Lyndale House made it all perfect. Surrounded by its own beautiful grounds and with glorious views over the loch and coastline it was just wonderful. It was so peaceful yet within comfortable reach of Portree and all the other parts of this beautiful island. We had fresh eggs laid by Hetty the hen and flowers from the gardens. Lovely to come back to and relax after a day out seeing as much of Skye's scenery as I could. This was an idyllic escape and i can't wait to come back.
