“Great hotel”

The hotel its self is very good, very clean and in good condition. The entertainment was boring after a day or two and needs improving. Staff are also very polite and helpful. Tip. If you are not all inclusive dont pay for it when you get there because you can help yourself to drinks, hotdogs ect at the pool bar because no one will challange you which is a bit annoying when you have paid and watch people help themselfs but thats the hotels fault. Bars could also stay open a little later otherwise its a long way to town.

“I'm not fussy but I wouldnt go back.....”

Didnt get off on a good note due to the MASSIVE number of stairs through-out the complex (which we weren't informed of when booking), but thought we would still enjoy as the hotel seemed really nice on first impressions.
The rooms - these are not rooms they are upside down houses?? u go into through the main door and you go up stairs into the lounge/kitchen or alternatively you can go down the stairs into the bedroom/bathroom, me and my husband went with our 2 children (10 and 7) to find they had put only one fold up bed in the bedroom downstairs as they expected one of my children to sleep upstairs near the front door by themselves!! so we had to carry the bed down the very steep marble stairs ourselves, the room was very cramped because of this so it is not really suitable for a family of 4, and we had no use for the kitchen as we were all inclusive. The shower in the bathroom ran hot for the first person, warm for the second and then mild to cold for the others! we reported this to the reception in the morning and they sent someone up that afternoon (only knew as they left the boiler cupboard open) that night the shower was warm for everyone but the next night it was the same as the first, so again i reported it and questioned the type of water heater they had to which they said it should be continuous hot water all day......again got fixed for that evening but next day what do you know back to normal again! i gave up hope and me and my husband endured a cold shower for the rest of our holiday.......
The food - we were told we had sitting times for the restaurant due to it being EXTREMELY small this i found a nuisance as you cant predict what time of day you will want to eat, this we followed for the first few days but then realised that no-one else was following this rule so we came and went as we pleased and the staff didnt bat an eyelid, so why make the rule in the first place??? The breakfast and lunches were okay, but the evening meals had themed nights each day of the week, which was fine for the first week, but come the second the menu's never changed (and talking to ppl who had been there the year before, it was the same menu then as well). They done toasties (with no flavour) and hot dogs free through the day from the outdoor bars.
The entertainment - through the day this was good, they had all kids and adults alike entertained around the pool area with water sports, darts, football etc and the evening entertainment had a good variety of acts on too......thats if you managed to get to see it! The main bar was situated outside at the back of the pool area accessed by approx 25 stairs with a very small area (for the size of the hotel and bearing in mind you are a good 30 minutes walk away from las americas centre) for sitting in front of the stage/bar if you ate at around 6.30-7.00pm then you were going to get a seat, for everyone else you had to sit down by the pool and try to look up at the side of the stage where the staff now and then waved at us down below just to make sure we didnt feel left out! This area had its own bar.....but didnt open til 9pm (normally 9.15pm by the time they had finished they waiting duties in the restaurant!!) and only served lager and pop, so if any other drinks were wanted, then you had to go all the way up to the other bar to where everyone was enjoying themselves.
Some of the staff were really pleasant, especially Aneika on reception she was always smiling and very easy to talk too, however some of them just grunted at you...the hotel manager was always wandering around and barking out loud and never once smiled at his paying customers, except when he had too when it was part of the daytime entertainment to meet and greet all the staff by the pool area!!
The hygiene ok but wasn't the best either....you could taste the bitterness of the sun cream in the pool when you went in the water, a spanish child used the kids pool area as a toilet and the pool had to be evacuated, it was more than three hours before they decided to do something about it, and only because there were alot of families complaining to the holiday reps (who said it wasn't there job to sort it out!) The main bar by our second week stunk of crap to put it mildly, there was a very off putting smell about it, and i wouldnt drink from that bar again because of it.
However we still managed to have a part enjoyable holiday.....when we went to places outside the hotel!!! This was rated a 4 star hotel, i have stayed in 3 star with better services than this.......

Room Tip: Tell them you have walking difficulties and would need a ground floor apartment by the pool

“Had a great time, but so many more places to see...”

All in all had quite a nice time at resort, altho we booked it mostly because of the Thomas Cook kids club, as it stated loads for them to do. My 4yo atteneded the dat after we arrived and was the only kid there. Next day we were the only ones who turned up and sadly my boy was turned away. Same the next day so we gave up going.... I told the Thomas Cook rep at the end of our holiday but he didn't seemed too bothered. He said that people are told about the club when they arrive and it's not their fault if nobody goes. Quite true, but I just didn't think they put enough effort into getting the kids there. Lukilly the hotel has their own Animacion Team, who did quite a bit, but mostly with the older children. The Mini Disco at night was also quite boring as the reps just didn't put enough into it. I was in Lanzarote last year and loved the Mini Disco as the reps there made it really special for each child. Would definately look into it more before choosing next years holiday as my boy was a little bored.
The apartment was lovely and clean, big living room, kitchen and verandah as you walk in then toilet, massive bedroom and patio downstairs. Kids bed was upstairs under the 38" tv, so we moved it downstairs to our room, as the flooring is all marble and the stairs could be quite slippery, as I found out when I almost fell going down. My little boy also fell going up them and cracked his hip which was quite sore. Could do with some gripping on them. There is no air con which was really bad as it was so hot while we were there. There is a fan in the room which helped a little. Didn't fancy leaving the patio doors open as it was on the ground floor.
The hotel was nearer Los Christianos and was quite a bit to walk into town. There is a free bus service in the morning or a taxi only costs about 5 euro.
When you arrive they allocate you with a 'time slot' for BF, Lunch and Dinner. We never adhered to it as it was quite late but they never said anything if you went at a different time. Food was OK, but I am quite fussy. As long as you like stir fry and chips then you won't starve. My husband loved almost everything but I struggled to feed my little boy as he didn't like anything. Take your own tomato sauce as he hated theirs. Staff were very nice and were very helpful. I was always asking for brown sauce, and informed them us brits like it so they put a bowl out.
There are 3 pools but we mainly sat at the kids pool. Getting a bed is a nightmare, resulting in having to get up really early to put your towel out, which we don't agree with but had to do to get one!! Think people do it at night but having a 4 yo we were never up late enough. During the day you can get snacks, same every day, toasties or hot dogs and occasionally cake. Some bar staff only give you 2 drinks at a time which resulted in me arguing that there was 3 in my party and I either had to leave my son alone at the pool to get him a drink cos my husband wanted 1 too, or my husband having to get his own after I had stood in a queue to get my 2. You MUST have your band on to get served too. Mine snapped and after being refused service I had to get it renewed at reception. There is a little Swap Shop thing at the bottom of the stairs at the kids pool where people leave arm bands, li los etc which is quite good. The little shop is not too expensive either but Spar is very cheap in town. We ate out a few times just to break the monotony of it all. Probably about 30E for a meal for 3.
After dinner the entertainment starts about 8ish. Mini Disco for kids, bit boring, Bingo with Renate, she is very entertaining, but OMG she is loud. 'Thats the way Uhuh uhuh I like it' rings thru my ears!! Usual Parrot Show, Bird Show Snake Show etc....few singers, ABBA and the Beatles were quite good. Bar closes for All Inclusive at 11pm ON THE DOT!!! Quite sure the drink was watered down as I'm not a drinker bit it took a few to get me merry, lol. Hope this helps you to decide your holiday.

Room Tip: UPGRADE for 25Euro per day lol

“fantastic holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

My husband, son and myself have recently returned from a fantastic holiday in tenerife. We stayed in the Grand Oasis Resort. We arrived at the hotel on the 15th of July for two weeks. We had a fantastic holiday. Before going on the holiday I was constantly reading the reviews about the holiday and to be honest I was slightly apprehensive about going to the hotel.
I am going to tell the truth about the hotel. The hotel.is beautiful, the staff are lovely and they are very helpful and polite.
We stayed in room 163 which overlooked the pool. I requested a pool view and there was no problem. The kitchen was open planned with all the facilities required should people choose to go self catering. There is a lovely large fridge which was very convient to keep the suncreams in. The living area was beautiful with a lovely plazma tv and very clean.
The bedroom and bathroom are downstairs. The beds are changed every day except for Wednesday and Sunday but, we all need some time of no big deal. I went to the rception and no problen they gave me towels and sheets for the bed if, I felt the bed neded changed on either of these two days.
There was no cockroaches! The food was really lovely and a different theme every night. There was food to suit every individual and plenty for the kids.
It is a family resort and the kids are greatly entertained. My son is aged 7 and he had a great time. He met plenty of lovely children.
I felt the resort was very safe with, a security guard on duty evey night. The entertainment at the pool bar finished every night at 11.pm. There was no one roudy or displaying inappropiate behaviour.
The previous reviews I read about this resort are totally untrue and it makes me sad to think that people are so difficult to please, and the staff worked so hard and long hours.
The only negative I am going to write is the hotel does require air conditioning and they are fully aware of this. If you have children aged between 2 years and approximately 5 years there is 6 steps from the living area down to the bedroom via the bathroom and they can be slightly slippy especially after returning from the pool so. the kids would definitely need supoervised by an adullt.
A GREAT HOLIDAY. One piece of advice to any one going to the hotel is please do not pay attention to the negatyive reviews of this hotel. The McBride family Northern Ireland

“Super friencly staff and great service”

We have just returned from this resort having had a really great time. we were greeted at reception in the early hours by a really friendly reception staff . Too tired to inspect our room when we arrived. Our room was situated someway from the pool area at the top of a steep hill but there was a choice of steps or ramps making access easy. The room was really nice but lack air conditioning which was the only disappointment.

The food served in the main restaurant was excellent and the service couldn't be faulted with very attentive and polite staff. There was plenty of choice on offer for main course. The selection of sweets was good if a little repetitive.

The pool area was really good although sun loungers difficult to find but still possible if you were prepared to move them around yourself. The pools got a little cloudy due to a filter problem but this was soon picked up by the staff and sorted out.

The evening entertainment was fun with a really good entertainment team,

The hotel was kept exceptionally clean, with staff who really cared. I really cannot recognize the hotel as described by one or to disappointed contributors in this respect.

The hotel was someway from the main town but a free shuttle was available to take you and bring you back. A friendly taxi service was also available if you wanted to make you own way around.

All in all a very nice hotel and one that I would happily return to.
