“Do not visit the lunch and evening buffet”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We has invited our family to an december holiday at this nice placed Hotel, 8 persons with all inclusive.
The rooms are very nice and the swimming pool with fine sunbeds are perfect.
We was looking forward to the buffet, and the buffet looked nice too.
But after 2 Days one of us got sick, the day after 2 more felt ill, and on the 4th day 3 more had to stay in bed. We talked to some of the other guests, and they told us that there were several with the same sickness as us.
Thew we didn't dare to eat lunch and evening diner in the hotel restaurant anymore.
We asked the lady in the reception if we could get some refund, so we could eat at another local restaurant, but this was refused. We chose to eat out anyway.
After we got home I have been ic contact with the Danish Helth authorities, and they said that in Denmark buffets has some specfic rules, ex the spoons must be seperated from the food, so the guests fingers do not touch the food.
At the Hotel the spoons was just laying ind the food, that might be the reason why so many got ill.
It was a pitty, because the hotel surroundings was perfect, just beside the beach with Sea view form all rooms.
If we did'nt got sick the Hotel would have got 4 "stars"

Good evening

I regret that you could not feel comfortable at our hotel Dunas Don Gregory because of stomach troubles.
Of course we have a HACCP based system to ensure food safety. All the staff of our F&B Department has been adequately trained in food hygiene and dispose of the corresponding certificate. The local health department makes regular checks and we never suffered food poisoning outbreaks.
I am sorry that you and your family suffered from stomach problems during your stay but I can assure that they are not based on insufficient hygiene measures in our Hotel.

Kind regards,

Antonio Cabrera

“Excellent location”

The best thing about this hotel is by far the location: right on the quiet and beautiful San Agustin beach. - all rooms have sea-view.
San Agustin is almost at the east end of the southern beaches(Maspalomas, Ingles, San Agustin). It is a quiet and nice area. There is also a shopping mall just outside the main entrance.
The rooms are good, and always clean. We experienced some issues with AC and bathroom.
Food is great, though we experienced that some buffet items was not restacked. Also the eating area is a bit small for the number of rooms. Some guests had to return to the next sitting because it was full.
The majority of the guests are elderly and from Germany, I guess its because of the area being quiet and not so crowded. Not the greatest for children - if our kid made some noise during dinner, a lot of eyes turned to our table.
The pool is good for swimming. The fitness room is OK - as it usually is, not great. The hotel had a fulltime employee who arranged different activities - worked great.
The service is not great. We asked for a crib to our kid, they were reluctant to give us this; and it took them over 4 hours to bring it to our room. At that time our kid had gone to sleep.

The top feature of this hotel is the location.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea-view. There is some noise from the pool area at evening/late evening.

“A Fantastic Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

We found the Don Gregory a very nice hotel indeed, away from the main tourist drag and close to lots of facilities and amenties. The Hotel staff were very helpful and coureous. The staff spoke enough English to get by and I wont be so arrogant as to critisize - it is Spain after all. A minimal grasp of Spanish wont go amiss and we got by just fine on this basis - leaving with the intention to learn more of the language rather than expect everyone to speak English! Other guests were mainly German and Dutch and the lack of English people wasnt a drawback - we enjoyed being in amongst people from other countries. No football tops or complaints that everything was too "foreign"! The room, overlooking the pool area and the beach, was lovely - spacious and well furnished - as was the bathroom (bath, shower, wc, bidet, basin) - plenty of room all round. (It seems all the rooms have a front facing sea view - no rooms overlooked the shopping centre side of the hotel) The room was cleaned and tidied up everyday and no problems about towel changing when we wanted this. Our only concern was that the air-con, moreso at night ,perhaps wasnt as good as it might have been but this wasnt a major issue. Pool area was regulalrly cleaned and tidied and the pool was spacious and clean at all times. Buffet resaurant catered across the board - lots of choice and themed nights - sometimes outdoors cooking. Many guests were all-inclusive and so evening dining was in two sittings at 6pm and 8pm - non all-inclusive guests like us could pay-as-you go to eat in the evening - fixed price for evening meal. Varied entertainment at pool bar area most nights - and finished at around 11pm: good if you needed to get to sleep. The Hotel is in a great location - right on the beach, with a large shopping centre across the road - with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. A taxi into Playa del Ingles took about 5 minutes and cost about 4-5 Euro where extensive shopping, dining and other facilites were located (main tourist area) Buses from very near the hotel also cheap and took only a 10 minutes. 15 minutes to airport also a bonus. The hotel is able to arrange a variety of excursions detailed in a folder located in the foyer where you can choose what you would like to do and see. I would recommend the VIP Island tour and get up into the hills and off the beaten track - was a great day. We also booked a boat trip and saw lots of flying fish and dolphin - amazing! The hotel dont run these trips but are agents. All round we had a lovely relaxing holiday and will return to the Don Gregory if we go to Gran Canaria again.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have a sea view although there may have been rooms on the ground floor with a gard...

“Not good as before”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Stayed between 3-10 September in Don Gregory for our 2:nd time with all inclusive, this time in room 722,, next to 721 as last time, but this room is not good as 721,, the view is not the same and if you use the aircondition you cant use the room,,because its a smell of dont know what? maybe dead body or something so we think there was a problem with the aircondition,

And the staff was NOT friendly as in December, maybe because of high season? And alot of things to do!

But the food in breakfast, lunch and dinner was SO GOOD even this time!

But service is not good at all the staff are very rude and want help you at all,, they even have fights between each others.

Now they dont serve Cava or some other drinks in the all inclusive concept.

So this vacation was a little disapointment, but maybe we go back some other time anyway.

This was a very short review , but if you want to know somthing more just send us a message.

Room Tip: Top floors

a very good hotel. Went for a week in mid August, only english in the hotel mainly Germans & Dutch and a few Spanish. Good size bedroom. We went all inclusive and the food was excellent, with a very good choice at each meal time and the standard of variety of meals was very good. All meals are buffet style. On the first day I asked for qnother 2 pillows and they were in our room within the hour. The aircon leaked twice in the lobby to our bedroom , but was dealt with immediatley after informing reception. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and will come back if we return to Gran Canaria
