“not to bad”

stayed here august for 2 weeks big hotel compared to some in santa ponsa ,2 nice pools and 1 water slide, every morning from 7am all sun beds were taken with towels and would not be used until 3 or 4 in the day some beds were not used at all ,so unless you wanted to push somebodys towel off there bed you were not getting one, pool bar is ok, entertainment is great at this hotel for the kids and the kids club staff are great with them, rooms basic, few visits from the odd cockroach coming from the back of the sink and under the door of the room, 10 mins to centre of santa ponsa 5 euro in a taxi , hotel area beside private houses and villas is not wild with pubs or clubs just one really good pub right outside back door of bouganvilla the elms bar good for a peaceful beer, overall i would say its a basic good value for money hotel in a quite area , would stay again just not high season.

Room Tip: ask for pool view

“Excellent holiday for the money”

Booked this hotel then when I read some of the reviews got worried, there was no need. The hotel was nice, clean and good value for money. Pool area was nice and clean. Nice walk to the beach and just down the road from the square where there is family entertainment from half 8 til midnight. Really enjoyed my week. Don't let the negative reviews put you off.

“Distinctly average but ok for the money you pay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

My girlfriend stayed here for 5 nights from 10-15th September 2011.

I’m not going to lie our first impressions weren’t great. The local area is ok but I think we approached on the coach from the possible worst angle! (also if you are planning on using Resorthoppa to get to the hotel I think it might be quicker to walk...!)

When we got into the hotel it looks just like what you’d expect from a 3* so not too bad. We got given our key and told where the lifts were and that was precisely it! We found that throughout the 5 nights whenever we needed to speak to reception they were totally friendly and spoke good English just they tell you absolutely nothing without you having to ask them first! One large concern was that they wanted to keep our passports for the first night and told us we could pick them up the next day (not sure why considering we paid for the hotel upfront...!). The issue with this was that they left the passports in wooden ‘cubby holes’ screwed to the wall which were in easy reaching distance from anybody standing by reception. What made it worse was that on a few occasions when waiting to speak to somebody at reception they were nowhere to be seen, ultimately leaving passports free for anybody to steal. I waited most times about 15 mins and once 25 mins – all the while the passports were completely on display and up for grabs.

We then got into our room (and I’ll be honest - we hadn’t expected much considering what we paid) we were a little disappointed. The picture’s online are representative however I’m guessing they were taken around 15-20 years ago because everything is in real need of updating. My girlfriend suggesting it looked like a room from a game of Cluedo was quite a good observation! The TV was old and brown and had a panel with buttons on the right but you could only change channel by scanning through them one by one (bearing in mind majority are fuzzy screens it gets a little painful). Channels offered are BBC1, CNN and C4 if you’re lucky although they all lose signal around 3pm and don’t return again until the morning. The studio that we had was adequately sized for my girlfriend and I however if you had kids and/or needed a Cot then it would be a bit tight. The room itself was however clean although out of date. I had to wash up all the cooking equipment before using it and the draws/cupboards had stains and crumbs inside.

People complain about the air conditioning however, in fairness it’s not available in the peak of the day when most guests are out and about. People also complain that you have to hire a kettle – we had a kettle that you heat on the hob and it worked perfectly fine. The patio door needed a good few slams before the previously broken lock went into place and secured the room.

I would say the size of the balcony was quite good and the bathroom was newer than the room itself.

Santa Ponsa isn’t the prettiest part of Majorca but for a short break for some sun is quite affordable. There are lots of Scottish and Irish Pubs/Bars showing football, rugby X Factor etc!

The main resort is an easy 15 minute walk from the hotel. En route is ‘BIP’ supermarket which has a wide variety and good value (unless you buy all UK branded goods)

We went to the beach every day and it is very clean and the water is nice and clear. Sunbed’s are 10.80 Euro’s for 2 and a parasol so not horrendous. Some of the restaurants offer set menu’s for 9.95-11.95 pp and you get 3 courses, bread and either a bottle of wine (or a glass depending where you go) or a beer or soft drink. We found these to be great value for money. The food is better than the price suggests and worth a try!

We grew more fond of our room as the holiday went on, the only awkward thing was asking for more toilet roll at reception (1 half used roll for 5 days not quite adequate!)

All in all it wasn’t top class hotel because we didn’t pay top class money. I would say I was moderately satisfied with what I got for the money I spent.

Room Tip: Try and get pool facing if you can

“Great Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

The hotel is basic but clean and what you would expect for the low price. Our room was cleaned/changed 3 times in the week that we stayed. Some of the hotel is a bit on the run down side although not unsafe. Some cracked loose tiles at poolside etc. My partner and I went with out 2 year old son and he loved the baby pool which was large and always had plenty of sun loungers available.

The hotel is in a quiter location about 10mins walk to the main Santa Ponsa strip and beach. I have been to Santa Ponsa twice before and I would have probably rather stayed nearer the centre. The walk with a buggy in the heat can be a bit of a pain.

All in all we enjoyed our stay and would return to Santa Ponsa although not the hotel just for the fact of the location.

We are Scottish and personally liked the Glasgow Grill. They did a 2 course menu for 8.50Euro or 3 course for 10Euro. The food was nice especially the big breakfast in the morning. We would also recommend Mrs Murphys Kitchen that although being the most expensive for food was the nicest we had. In terms of pubs you really have to go Irish with live music thats what Santa Ponsa is all about.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front of the hotel which was not sun facing which made the room cooler.

“Defintely not 4 star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

This hotel is definitely not 4 star I would be pushed to give it 2. The studio apartment we were shown to on the ground floor was dark and dingy, the curtains were torn and would not open at the side where the patio door opened which perhaps wasn't such a bad thing as the balcony was tiny dirty and had a huge extractor fan facing towards the apartment. The corridor contained a huge rubbish skip and a cot which I wouldn't have put my dog in let alone some poor unsuspecting child. The area surrounding the hotel was unkempt with boarded up shops and grass growing on the sidewalks. Needless to say we did not stop but found another hotel even though we had then to fork out additional money which we hadn't expected to have to pay. The only good thing about the hotel was the girl on reception who was very nice. I am very disappointed with on the beach who gave it a four star rating.
