My friend and I stayed here from 21st-27th October having been moved from the Holiday Centre as they had over-booked. Having read the reviews we requested a pool view and free a/c and also got half-board before agreeing to be reallocated. On arrival the room we had been allocated (304) was at the front, over looking the taxi rank not the pool as requested. We initially asked them to change the room for a pool view but they couldn't accommodate us until the following day in a smaller room. After having spent the first day in the front facing room we actually decided to stay put as it was nice to be facing the sea (tiny glimpse through the trees), afternoon sun and people passing by. We were there at the very end of the season and we weren't disturbed by late night noise or traffic at all - I should imagine it's very different in high season. The hotel is in a great location, really close to the lovely beach and away from most of the noisy bars etc. It is also really handy for getting taxis and buses. It only takes a few minutes to reach the livelier end of town so it doesn't feel out of the way. The rooms are simple but were very clean and the staff are all friendly and hard-working. The food was good on the whole, lots of it, fairly typical and ok quality. There was lovely fresh bread and empty serving trays were quickly topped up. Vegetarians might find the choice limited - I ate tomato baguettes for 6 days as I doubted that the cheese was vegetarian but that is my choice. The dining room chairs were stained and grubby but given the fact that the hotel was due to close 4 days after we left I assume that will be sorted for the new season. There was very little we could find wrong with this hotel - the bathrooms smelt quite badly of drains but were very clean, the walls were quite thin - we could hear snoring from rooms on both sides and the pool wasn't very appealing - it's quite small with a high wall around it that meant you would have to move around to catch the sun during the day. It looked very basic and a bit like sitting in someone's back yard, we didn't bother as the beach is so lovely and close by.
The sand on Santa Ponsa beach has lots of cigarette ends but apart from that it was lovely. the sea was really clear with shoals of tiny fish and it was quite warm for swimming when you acclimatised. It's also quite sheltered compared to some resorts as the bay is horseshoe shaped. There is a marina near the "harbour wall" which was a very pleasant walk with lots of interesting houses and a little beach.
We would definitely come here again, although avoiding peak season as we did this time. It's a good choice for some late season sunshine and a chance to relax. The Plaza Santa Ponsa is simple but very clean, friendly and well located.
