Forgot to post a review of our holiday in Santa Ponsa late August./September. We stayed at the Playas del Rey Hotel and found it to be quite basic. The breakfast each morning was disappointing to say the least. (ie beans with scrambled eggs!) We tried the dinner a couple of times, but given that it was only 10 euros, how could we complain. The staff throughout the hotel were extremely helpful and made up for all the negative comments we could say. Not a good mix of young and old. Pool in the shade much of the day. Not enough beds for even half the people in the hotel. The hotel is at the quieter end of the resort and therefore the location was great, and it was easy for lovely restaurants, bus station for days away and the beach. I have read many negative comments about Santa Ponsa, but if people do not want riotous nights out, stay away from the "biz" I will go back to Santa Ponsa someday

Returned to this hotel (previous visit 2005) same friendly staff clean rooms in quiet area - only 1 negative comment - the hotel was full and arriving for breakfast 9.30 was not such a good idea as 2 mornings running there were no knives/spoons/plates - the very busy waitress did eventually replace them after prompting but we felt another member of staff could help when the dining room is busy otherwise a very pleasant stay

I have stayed in this hotel on numerous ocassions in the past few years and am looking forward to my return this summer. In a world full of faceless, boutique chain resorts the Hotel Playas Del Rey is a family run Oasis, where the simple things in life come first. A warm welcome from the ever smiling reception staff, clean and comfortable bedrooms, a two minute walk to the beach and most importantly the feeling that you are not just another number.

Roll on August.

Playas del Rey is a medium family run hotel. The owners and staff are friendly and pleasant what ever the weather. The Hotel is located 2 minutes walk from the beach and 15 minutes from the marina. I would recommend this hotel for a weekend break as its stress free and the staff make you feel at home.

Hotel is positioned on a main road up a steep hill. The pool area is shaded alot by the surrounding buildings. There is adequate space for the small number of guests but like most hotels has insufficient sunbeds for everyone.

Our room was small but clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and speak adequate english. There was alot of noise until 3AM from the bar across the road

Breakfast is continental buffet style (scrambled eggs and bacon also available) in the light and pleasant dinning room.

Evening meals are served in the bar/tv lounge/terrace which can be noisy, particularly bad when football is on tv. The terrace tables were mostly reserved by the management for the regular elderly guests often for the whole night rather than allowing other guests to use the tables if they have had an early meal. The food is british "pub"style with no local dishes at all.

We would not go back; but if you're over 60, deaf, like boring food and don't want a tan then this is the place for you.
